JOE
Joe is a gorgeous 2 year old greyhound boy. He has two white back toes but otherwise is completely black. He has a very unusually shaped face with adorable floppy ears, making him quite unique in the greyhound world!
Joe is another dog that was too slow for racing and was due to be put to sleep. Fortuntately, KGC was able to offer him a rescue space and he is now looking for his own home. He has not been with us long, so this post will be updated when we get to know him a bit better.
Joe gets on good with the other greyhounds, but is not able to live with cats. He is currently in kennels in Ireland, and can be transported to the UK or Europe if a suitable home offer comes up. This would be organised and paid for by Kerry Greyhounds and we ask only for a donation to help cover costs. He is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped and a home check will be required as part of the adoption procedure.
**UPDATE 03/2010**
Gorgeous Joe has been in a foster home for a week, and has proven to be an excellent houseguest. He was calm and quiet in the house, never crying again after the first 10 mins of the first night. He was content to be crated and was clean over night.
Joe is an easy going boy. He loved following his fosterer around the house and garden, and was content to flop down and snooze after his walks. We think he will make a lovely, loyal companion for someone. He walks beautifully on the lead and has been great with every greyhound he has met. However care will be needed when introducing him to other breeds of dog, as before coming to us he had only ever seen greyhounds and he is still trying to work out that dogs can come in other shapes! Some training and socialisation will improve this, however.
Joe's fosterer feels he could be homed as an only dog, or perhaps with another large breed dog (or, better yet, another greyhound!) for company.
Right now Joe needs to gain some condition as he had a bad gastro-intestinal bug a few weeks ago. He is now fully recovered from this illness and only needs some good food to be back fighting fit again. He will be travelling to the UK shortly to find his forever home there. This beautiful, unusual laddie really deserves his forever sofa now.
**UPDATE 03/2010 #2**
I was fortunate enough to meet this lovely fella myself, and he is definitely an unusual, striking boy. He walked beautifully on the lead and was very mannerly with the 9 other hounds we walked with. He was quiet and calm in the noise and bustle of the built up area i saw him in, and didnt seem phased by other people or dogs.
Joe's coat is in fantastic condition. It is sleek with a beautiful shine and is very soft to the touch. His best feature, however, has to be his big ears! They seem to have a mind of their own and bend up in the most comical way. His face is also unusually shaped and his eyes are large and striking. He really is a gorgeous boy and i couldnt fault him!
Joe has now travelled to Norfolk in the UK where he waits for his forever home.
