I wish I could take him, but I think my husband would probably leave me. However I am very keen to help the little girl- I'd love to contribute to saving her, is there anyway we can do this?

Gosh...good luck to Josef and the other girl you are trying to save.

Thank you for taking the time to put down so much information about him. It was fascinating to read....and of course sad too. Well done for all the work you are putting into re-homing him. You deserve a medal......

You are all very kind!

I am waiting for some additional photos so we can determine if she is sloughi or not.

In the meantime, I learned a long time ago to never refuse help when you need it!!

However, let's wait a bit and see if some additional photos come in, as well as some additional information. I will indeed accept offers of help, so don't go away!

thanks again,

MJ

It may well be a sloughi. They could not take extra photos but from the description - "greyhoundy" body, end of the tail is curled, the right kind of ears, the right colouring. that with the first photo I saw is looking good...they said she has green eyes, too! Odd!

She is extremely thin, has mange, and is covered in oil.

Poor girl. I hope to get transport for her for tomorrow. Too late to do so today. At least she is off the streets.

Thank you wolfhound for the background info. I hope you did not feel obligated to provide it because of my silly questioning of his pedigree. At the same time, I am sure the story could serve as a lesson. When things get as seriously out of hand with someone in such a small (and I would imagine transparent) community as that of British sloughi breeders, I am sure it could happen anywhere.

Also, I don't feel ashamed for bumping up his thread... I hope he finds a loving home really soon! :luck: :luck: :luck:

The sloughi breed certainly is quite heterogeneous, and his desert bred background could certainly account for some of the features that we as westerners are not used to seeing in sloughis. I also notice that many of the sloughis on the rescue website have rose ears, just like Josef. It was those, coupled with his unusual colouring, coat texture and more "streamlined" appearance (maybe because he is well-fed?) that had me fooled.

No problem! People who are not "into" sloughi usually guess that he is part greyhound and part saluki.

Yes, I would like Josef to find a home soon too! He is really ready for it.

Anyway, whatever he is, i hope both Josef and the girl, will find good home. :luck: :luck: :luck: :luck: :luck: :luck: :luck: :luck: :luck: :luck:

Any further news on Josef or the other soloughi girl you picked up??

I went on a Sloughi seminar in Wales several years ago and saw many of the breed and we had to write a critique on several of them... This was impossible for me as i have never judged or had any interest in it, but not only that every dog was totally different to the other, some incredibly tall, some small, some skinny as rakes others really well muscled up, some mad as hatters others very shy and aloof. I know all breeds have great variation in type etc but i know i felt totally out of my depth writing about them!!!!!

BTW this is where i fell in love with the Azawakh, there were a few there too, wow what a stunning breed

photos of the Dublin pound girl are now in the Lurchers section...

I hope poor Josef finds a new home very soon, bless him :huggles: :huggles:

I wouldn't mind contributing in the whip round for the poor girl. It wouldn't be a lot but if as many people that could gave something it would surely help.
