In the evenings we let the dogs have a run around the back of some tennis courts and they absolutely love playing there.
Last night, we were running late so we drove there, and as we had the car we thought it would be fun to leave the head lights on so we could see them better. They ran off together playing and Josephine hit the netting around the tennis courts and went down . I was TERRIFIED. I ran the 100 yards or so to her and she was flat out on her side with blood coming from her nose. She was like that for what seemed like ages, but was probably only 30 secs or a minute, when she sat up. I have never been so relieved, but as there was still blood coming from her nose and her mouth and her eye was rapidly closing we drove her straight to the vet.
She sat on my lap in front, and I don't think she liked that very much (the others think its such a treat) but I was very relieved that she was well enough to struggle and complain about being made to sit down (she likes to stand and watch whats going on in the car).
The vets kept her in over night and x-rayed her to check that the hadn't broken anything (thank goodness she hadn't).
I picked her up at 9.30 this morning, she looks a bit strange as they shaved the side of her head, but she was very bouncy and perky (and pleased to see me).
We've been for a little walk and she's now luxuriating on the sofa.
The others were sooooooooooo sweet with her. They were licking her face when I reached her and didn't leave my side till we got to the car, and cried when they were put in the back and couldn't see her. They were utterly miserable when we left her at the vets last night, and so extatic to see her this morning. o
I now feel awful for having the car headlights on, I think the contrast between the light and the dark must have dazzled her so I shall not be doing that again.
