So many people like going to shows week after week but very few are prepared to put anything back in , How do you think these shows are run and organised  , yes by folk being prepared to put time ,energy and yes some of their own money into running these show for you, the exhibitors   OK off my soap box now  :cheers:

I think there are 2 different things here. If I understand Jax properly, she is talking here about the running of shows here - and I fully agree with her. Being on the committee of 2 different clubs (one Whippet and one all breed) I know it is very hard to find people who are willing to help - although there are plenty who are willing to tell us how we "should" be doing things!

The second thing is that although being on a committee does not actually help anyone to get judging appointments at any level. It does show a certain committment and interest in the breed / showing in general, and from that point of view can't do any harm. It might (and I stress this is only a MIGHT) mean that the person in question is more likely to come to mind when a committee is sitting trying to think of potential judges.

Can I ask just one question :- -

Why does this person want to judge at a show that gives tickets ,? Is it the

" I'm a Champ show judge so I am better than you " Syndrone, When you give tickets you tend to get all the exhibeters that creep to the judge to gain Favour, and at times loose so called friends that thought they should have got the ticket because you have known them for years.

Listen friend you are better off just enjoying the day out and making new friends and meeting old ones. After all it's just a sport not like football Life it's self.

I think this may be our phantom stirrer.  Im sorry if its a real question but it sounds so unlike a question a UK Whippet shower would ask.
Anyway Jax has told it like it is in the UK (some club lists are much harder to get on than Midland Whippet) so best get out there and contribute. :thumbsup:

Sorry Karen, I'm no phantom stirrer and I'm NOT actually looking to do - nor am I wanting to ASK to - 'do' tickets. I have the 20 years experience, won ONE CC and bred a few Ch show winners, been to lectures, talks, judge-ins etc.

I believe MYSELF that I could do with two or three Champions under my belt!

What do K9'ers think? :- "

Would any breeder/show person want to show their Champions under someone who has never OWNED or BRED a Champion. Perhaps you back-slappers who do squillions of posts don't think it matters?

What about the 592 silent majority who viewed this topic and just moved on?

Lord knows, next we shall be having CRUFTS judges who have never owned or bred a Champion!?!

I suppose it doesn't matter !?! :wacko:

As regards never having breed or owned a champion , not everyone breeds litter after litter in one year let alone over several years :- " like some ........... and some of us keep our dogs that dont `make the grade ` hence we are limited on what we show . dosnt mean me dont know a good dog when we see it , a very blinkered view in my opinion

I don't think so - do you K9'ers??No - but you've got more chance of breeding more champions if you can breed more litters and get more pups into show homes haven't you?  And even more chance of getting champions if you sell to people who already have a high reputation in the dog world.  If I can only breed one litter every  two years and I don't get anyone to buy a show pup from me then I can only title the one I keep for myself can't I?

OF course.  But how does buying one in and titling it make you the expert on the breed? 

How do WE know that the judge with 'no champions' behind their activity in the breed really KNOWS what they are about.

How do we know that the judge with many champions really knows what they are about?  Surely you've seen some judges who bred/owned many champions make what you consider to be a glaring error?  I have.

How many champions have YOU owned or bred in 20 years??

In 33 years I have handled at least 14 dogs (not all whippets and not all my own) to their titles. I have bred 11 litters (one of which is currently still in the whelping box, seven champions, five of these were owned by me.  Who knows how many possible champions I had in these litters that I was forced to sell to pet homes because there just weren't show homes available.  Who knows how many more champions I could have had in my own yard if I were able to keep more dogs ... all the years I lived in the city where I could only keep two!  All the years I was at college and couldn't keep any!  The dogs I could be titling now if I wasn't faithful to the Oldies and keep them with me til their dying day?  The dogs I could be titling now if I were able to have twenty in my yard and a team of high profile handlers to help me.  All the champions I could have had and the reputation I could have built if I had money and could have bought in champions from another country - and then advertised them to the hilt - which almost guarantees them an Australian title.  Imagine how many show pups I would have sold if only one person of importance had bought a pup from me and won well with it.

I don't think it's necessarily a given that judge A with 20 champions he's owned/bred knows more about the breed than judge B who's been in the breed the same amount of time and only has two.  Circumstance could have a lot to do with that.

It's a big wide world out there, and if you badly want to award CC's I'm sure you can achieve it, stop whingeing and telling us how badly done to you are, get off your butt and make it happen. I'm afraid I cannot be doing with this attitude of it's everybody's fault but mine. If you want it, go for it, as you are anonymous we will never know if you get there or not, but at the very least you will have fun trying. Don't let this attitude spoil it for you dogs, they deserve better than to be used as part of your ego trip. If you think there are people awarding CC's who have achieved no better than you have then I'm afraid that's tough, it's the way it is and you can't change it, but what you can do is try to realise your dream. You only have one life, why be bitter, make it better.

If someone has the "ability" to award CC's and thus suggest this dog is worthy of becoming a champion or even make a dog into a champion with the third CC this is one thing. It seems remiss of them if they haven't also owned such a dog. After all knowing a good dog when seen would suggest they could put this into practise outside of the ring aswell as inside the ring.
