I used to get loads of `cold calls ,  (w00t)   but the thing that used to get me really annoyed was the way they said my surname , its Whitaker , but we`d get White acre  Wit , akker , , I used to say ,get my b  y name right and I might listen to you , of course 99% of these calls were form overseas , India ,  China  and some from USA ,by their accents .
Often I used to make out i was interested , put the phone on hands free and continue to do what ever i was doing before being interupted , they soon got fed up with not getting any reply     , then sometimes id ask them if they like to be hassled with people wasting there time when I was trying to relax in the evening  , one caller even told ME to fu  k off . I wished Id remembered who he was calling for

For those on SKY , beware  , one company is ringing and sort of making out they are Sky with `cover , they are NOTHING to do with Sky

,But you can get cold calls stopped and thats what we did , ;)

all you have to do is register on this site for telephone and post and within 28 days you will not recieve any ever again i did it a year ago and havn't had one since.

Cheers Patrick I've done that

Two ways I have heard of to stop the same company ringing again and again, never tried them as I usually pretend that I can't hear them and just keep saying "hello" and then hang up.

A friend says that she is interested and then leaves the phone so that the person is talking to themselves and then hangs it up half hour later.

Another way is to buy an air horn and press the button by receiver (this may be best left to abusive phone calls or ones that the caller doesn't speak!).

now, i like being totally polite to these people  let them do their thing, then after half hour or however long it takes :D ooooh, noooo! i am soooo sorry, its a council house! i'm not allowed to make alterations to the property! i've wasted all your time ;) maybe i'm a bit perverse :- " but i do the same to people trying to get me to change phone company... let 'em talk, then tell 'em i'm under contract :D funnily enough, cold calls are a rarity in my house :p

would'nt it be easier to say no thank you and put the phone down? i'm not a big fan of this kind of selling but they are just doing a job, by the way the numbers are picked at random so no amount of horning blowing or council house scams will stop your number being called go to this site and delete your number from their records
