What concerns me is that the responsible dedicated breeders will be the ones who look at the figures and decide to curtail their breeding plans and the breeders who would not know a breed standard if it jumped up and smacked them in the face will just carry on regardless.

I know that I will probably never breed a litter of puppies, even though it would fulfill a long held dream, but I have no reason to do so. I do, however, know that the breeding I admire most is in the safest of hands, and my role within the breed of buying a puppy, showing it as well as I am able and giving it the best home I possibly can, is just as valuable to the future of the breed as breeding litter after litter for no other reason than 'because I can'

This is a good thread but can I just remind people to keep it general and please not start mentioning people's or dog's names or make reference to breeders "from such and such an area" etc.
