My female whippet, Jess, has kennel cough. She has antibiotics from the vet. She has never been near a kennel. She rarely mixes with other dogs but likes to be with her 3 cat friends. Does anyone think she could have caught this from us as we have all had colds etc? Advice appreciated.

There is some info here on kennel cough - first section: FAQ Health - kennel cough etc

I don't think its the same virus as humans, but I do know it's very cotnagious and your dog can catch it just socialising with other dogs on walks. They don't actually have to have been in kennels  Read the FAQ section and you'll find some tips on TLC  Hope she's feeling better soon.

Hi there,

my dogs had a bout of kennel cough last year and to me it appeared hurrendous - but then i do worry alot!! :b

Theres no way to catch cough from humans & will most likely be from another dog through being in the same place & not even at the same time...

My two got anti-biotics from the vet too - she also recomended half a teaspoon of benolyn every 4 hours. Oh, and warm water with a tablespoon of honey & a squeeze of lemon to ease coughing fits. make a mug full of this up and just give a few spoons worth each time they start coughing and it works so well!

Hope Jess feels better soon! :luck: & , Emma.x
