MINE WERE 12 MONTHS BEFORE I LAMPED THEM, I ALWAYS LET THEM HUNT A FEW RABBITS IN DAYLIGHT FIRST, AT ABOUT 10 MONTHS, IT ALL DEPENDS ON THE BREEDING SOME PUPS ARE STRONGER THAT OTHERS, I WOULDNT START THEM TOO EARLY, LET THEM GROW 1ST, jeff

NOW I WOULD RUN A PUP WHEN I KNOW ITS READY ALL DEPENDS ON THE SIZE AND THE MENTALITY OF THE PUP, BUT WHAT DO I KNOW HEY????????????

i know what you mean but theres one pup there after coursing a few bunnies but didnt have the pace so we left him off but we tryed not to leave him loose on to many bunnies durning the day but theres so much about its hard, hes 6 months now but seems a little to slow for them so dont want knock his confidence, but then hes mad for rabbits always scanning the dicthes for them as we had him out bout 6 times ferreting :blink:hes marked a good few that wen to ground but was kinda wondering when do the dogs have adlult speed/ect

I think they have a bit of speed when they are about 11 months but the last thing they same to do is pick up thats a bit of skill in its own

your dog deserves the best and if you push him too early at this stage you could learn to regret it later on. my lurcher wz around 11mths when he started on the lamp hed been out b4 that but just to watch.

give him plenty of encouragement and try not to be too dispondant when you come back empty handed my dogs best runs have resulted in nothing in hand at the end of it but the dog has had a good chase and learnt a lot from it which it can put into practise over the runs

good luck :luck:

Depends on the breeding, and more importantly the individual. My line of lurchers Have had rabbits around 6 months old, Ive had a couple of first cross deerhound x greyhounds over the years, these come on a little slower, but have their first rabbits around 9 months, my pure bred deerhounds (bitches) also around the age of 9-10 months..I dont push them, I know when they are ready, Im not what you could call a one for the pot man, numbers are my thing, but these come later, but I always work on the premis of having early success..No one can ever set an age in stone
