Just got my Whippet News today and was shocked to read about the Thubron Family's letter.

How sad and upsetting for the family to be told there whippet (Gold Run) was taken ill after the champs due to a sedative been in his system, they must of been worried sick when the little dog started to vomit and pass white frothy diarrhea and then was unstable on his feet.

In the letter they ask everyone to be more vigilant and keep a close eye on your dogs, surly no other racer would of given this dog something deliberate.

I am pleased the little fellows got over this, as i saw him run around easington last week and he looked good.

We all would like to think that NO ONE would do such a thing :angry: but as has already been said we should all be more vigilant especially when camping

I know 99.9 % of other racers would not do such a thing.

Perhaps the dog has eaten a plant or a toadstool, i remember John Gills Chloe eating a toadstool in Scotland one year and they puked her..theres alot of poison's plants that could do this to dogs.

Im glad Gold Run is on the mend :thumbsup: ,,I hope that it was not tablet's etc laying around the field as if a young child had found them it could have ment death to him or her. Im now wondering just to leave the sport. I love the racing but I have 2 young kids who will and do come first. Rachel loves her dog and at the BWRA champs this year after Ricky got beet she said to her dad,," Im glad Ricky got beet , as he never got hurt ",,winner to a 9 year old is nothing,,a pet at home EVERYTHING

Next year Danny,,go and beet them all,,,my lot included :thumbsup:

im sorry to here about gold run and yes it could be dangerous if a child got hold of it but on the other hand suppose it was something else and a dog got tested and proved postive this is what make me think testing or not. just a thought. and by the way i think gary farmer had a couple of dogs with the shits maybe there was a bug going around, or as denise says could be grass or a plant they have eaten

Doesn't make much sense to me-

The dog ran ok at the champs in its heat-and the 2nd run wasn't too long after....

A sedative? was a sample of the vomit kept for the vet then?

i was at the traps for this race race cos i was in the following race. and gold run absolutly fell out of the boxes he just missed them by a few yards and we all know what happens when u miss the boxes.

dont know if missing them was something he had but every dog misses them once just bad luck in a final.

i dont think anyone in the sport would do something like has been said sounds like it could be a toadstool or something i hope so anyway

I agree Phil it would be.

Gary and myself had a phone call from a friend 2 years ago telling us to watch our dogs, as they had over heard a conversation and one of the sick, malicious people was threating to poison our dogs ( i wont mention any names on here), so we have had to be very careful the past few years while away racing, both day events and camping. If it wasn't for some very good friends helping us out and watching our dogs while we were away from our vehicle/ caravan who knows what might of happened.
