:D If you have read your dog papers this week, you might have read the letter that I sent regarding kids behaviour at shows.

Was chuffed to bits that it earned me Letter of the Week in Dog World, can't wait for me vouchers to arrive so I can spend them at Crufts! £20 for just a few minutes typing.

Way to go!

Seriously though, I felt really sorry for the exhibitors whose dogs were upset. It's bad enough when it happens with bigger breeds, but for little dogs, seeing a chair come crashing down possibly going to hit you, it's no wonder they were frightened to bits.

At one point, thought the father was going to lamp me one, but me being me, would have walked away, ( :- " but only after his goolies had been disrupted!) No seriously, I wouldn't have resorted to such dirty tactics but it does make you feel that way.

My critique is nearly finished, life this week has been so hectic as iI have been so busy at work and it was my (w00t) (w00t) 50th birthday on last Thursday and the family had arranged a surprise party.

Anyway let's hope things go smoothly at SYWC today. Your's truly will be stewarding for the dogs.

Good on you Jan. I dont think there can be ANY excuse for children behaving badly at shows and the parents should be banned from entering. If you let you dog run around like that and smash things up you would be kennel clubbed.

I saw the letter in the dog press and agree with what you say, I have lost count of the number of times I have been stewarding and had to tell children to stop running around near the rings.

Excuses, excuses, we're desperate you know (w00t) :- " :D (w00t)

Hope you have a good day stewarding, and also (for their sake) that no men upset you :x  (w00t)

Yes, I read your letter in the paper Jan and agreed with everything you say! I have been at shows where children have even galloped merrily through rings where judging was taking place (not, I ought to say, rings in which I was exhibiting at the time), also children wandering about doing just as they pleased and upsetting dogs (and irritating exhibitors). Their parents have not been interested when asked to control their children!

Seems like I struck a chord here, quite a few people approached me at SYWC today and said they'd read it and had experienced something similar at shows. It's good it's got people talking, let's hope the idiot to whom the children belong has also read it! Be interesting to see if it makes him respond - not that I'm trying to cause any mischief. :- " :- " :- " :- "

Any chance you can reprint it here Jan for those of us who haven't seen it? Sounds like a darn good read!

Having never had a show dog i dont know when to say that she can came?

As soon as she is old enough to understand that dogs are not play things,

assuming you have brought her up to obey you ;)

& to respect dogs & their owners

It is badly behaved kids & ignorant parents that

Two weeks ago I showed Sparky for the first time since Bournemouth. If you can imagine the ring marked out by chairs at each corner holding the marker tapes and one chair half-way down each side again holding the tape. In the AV Hound Grad class Sparky behaved pretty well and I was so pleased, in the final selection I was standing next to the middle chair, got him set up and sorted, when a little girl comes and plonks herself on this chair with a packet of crisps. I didn't think it was possible for a whippet to have such a long neck. He didn't quite get his head in the bag but it was pretty close. I did wonder on my way out of the ring if I shouldn't let him dive for the bag just to give her a shock but I thought better of it and we went and bought our own bag instead !!!

I SUPPOSE WE SHOULD BE GLADthat she was sitting at the ringside eating her crisps and not running through the ring spilling them, sparky would have gone ballistic :x

Here we go Oliver, if I can remember how to add stuff to it.
Impressive letter Jan!

Not sure how you managed to write so politely (w00t) about such an unpleasant situation (& not sure how the father escaped with the ability to father more kids  )

 ah well, Jasbri, I'd got me best judging clothes on, the blood would have made a total mess of them :- "

Well said Jan. Youve got my vote

You've got mine too! Excellent letter and I couldn't agree more!

Brilliant letter. Now if the committee members of a couple of shows I've been at would read it in relation to their own kids.... :- "

Wendy

There will be no problems with any young kids of the committee at SYWC

maybe if the dogs are that nervous the dog owners should question whether or not the dogs should be in a show ring in the first place!
