I started in 1970, after playing football at abbots ann, they started to trial whippets up the side of the pitch. I had never seen whippets race before so had to have a look. Jack Rees was running the lure, and was running his then famous

WCRCH Jacks Boy, that was me hooked, before long we had 5 in the house, after a few years in peddie racing I started to go to Vosper Thorneycroft WRC in the morning run by George Mc Cort, then onto Paulsgrove in the afternoon. After seeing the dogs at Paulsgrove I had to have a go with the different type of dog. At that time lots of the dogs racing were very heavy built and would now not be raced as they would be classed as Bully. I got a pup out of Rch Chilworth Storm

X Baby Jane brilliant on paper but were crap and could only just beat my peds.

Chillworth Storm was out of Wishy Was and White Diamond who was litter sister to

Snowflake, some think the best ever. so it just shows you can still be unlucky even with the best of breeding. I raced up untill 1982, then took a rest to bring up a family, one of which is Jade who like me likes the dogs , so we started again in 2000 when we got N.Ch Southern Scott. One year left in him with the vets, so we need to get a caravan a bit quick as we sold the last one last year.

I remember them doing bend racing at Preston, it was a normal lure that went round the outside of a load of steel drums - scary when you think about it.

no mail arrived here Martin, what was it about or try and send again,

1960 my first introduction to whippet racing at Agecroft and Moor Lane in Salford, it was up the tapes. I was only a kid then my dad used to race a dog called Kangaroo

I think the first bend meeting we went to was at Halifax
