Hello - I am new to this forum so hope its OK to post about a lost dog here - but i am also looking for advice / thoughts from other whippet owners.

We lost our year old Whippet Teddy near Huntly in a massive forest in Aberdeenshire on 9th Dec around 3pm - he went off with his Dad and Sister (his mum was also around but didnt go into the forest) after a deer into dense forest leading to a bog - Dad and sister came back after 10 minutes (as normal) Teddy never returned - we didnt leave the area, spent around 3 hours looking for him that night on bikes etc, returned later in the night with his dad and went through the forest into the bog - nothing - have gone through all the usual procedures looking for him, scent bases, wildlife cameras, searches, posters, contacting local stables, businesses, etc and have nothing at all - only lead is that someone heard barking in the forest a few days ago around 10am and 3pm. We have set camera and done BBQ in that area but again nothing. I have heard a lot about accidents with young whippets - he was tired when he went off too as had been out an hour already - i fear he could have hit a tree or got trapped in the boggy area (we have searched and had drones but nothing) - any advise most welcome thanks

Oh this is so terrible. So sorry for you. Agree re Doglost. Obviously keep visiting the area and try posters in any carpark walkers use. The only other thing you might try is to leave a very old well-worn coat of any family member the dog is close to at the place he left you - and set your camera up there. A long shot but you never know. I really wish you luck.

That's grim,I really hope the little fella turns up.

I know this advice isn't much good at the moment...but for the future. We put trackers on young lurchers just incase they go missing while chasing something. They don't cost a fortune,but save a lot of hassle and are easy to use just so long as you can get a phone signal.
Again I hope the little fella turns up.

I lost Harri once for a couple of hours. Luckily someone found him and rang me.

It's the most horrible thing and I really feel for you. Any news?

Sorry to hear this, it must be so awful for you all.

We’ve recently had a chocolate lab that disappeared in my town. There were lots of sightings of him but it took 5 days to get him back. I think they set up a trap with food in the end and that got him back. Even though he was friendly he was so spooked he wouldn’t come back to anyone, even his owners. Can you set a trap somewhere in the forest?

Best of luck in retrieving him. I read recently that a dog went missing for several days and was discovered stuck in a rabbit hole by a member of a search party that was organised. Could you try and run something similar with friends, family, Facebook contacts?

Hi Thank you - we have tried scent bases / BBQs / wildlife cameras etc - but no sightings at all so cant really set up a trap until we have a sighting - been over 3 weeks now with no sightings :(

@Jane Manning
Tractive is a good one,is it the hunting one? You can set a virtual fence up and if your dog leaves that area it alerts you. They are good,you can find the dog straight away if they turn in to Forest Gump.

Yes have found it good so far but not the hunting one - battery good too

Oh I’m so sorry to hear this, you must be devastated. It’s every dog owner’s nightmare.
Have you tried looking for any fencing? A few weeks ago I heard that a spaniel was missing for a week and had got caught by his collar on a fence.
Hope you find him soon.
