id be interested in peoples opinions that breed and race their dogs on the question at what point do lurchers end up back at full greyhounds,im not lookin to cause arguments just a debate for instance if i cross a three quarter greyhound quarter whippet with a 7/8 or full greyhound are the pups greyhounds or lurchers yis kieran

whippet x greyhounds aint lurchers they are longdogs :p

to me the cross you have mentioned is a greyhound saturated longdog, cant really be a greyhound as youve always got that bit what isnt . but when it comes down to it there near as damb a greyhound, imo when people breed like this its only to win rossettes and trophies a true LURCHER needs to have at least a quarter what is not running dog ...

if you look at most dogs winning races at shows there greyhound saturated longdogs ... people are more concerned with winning rossettes than having a good day out watching proper working lurchers race...

i know of a few people who call there dogs bullxs or collie xs because they once seen a bullx or colliex in the park :-

i think you hit the nail on the head their ,nice one

3/4 + 1/4 + 7/8 = 1 dog and 1 dog with an ear missing

i dont intend to breed and pups ,its just i hear my dog is 15/16ths this and 7/8ths that all the time and it left me thinking.also fractions dont count for anything after first generation.i have a 3 pups here 11/16 greyhound and some would think greyhounds with ggd head but they are as strong as any 5/8. :clown:

wow....confusing! :)

we have a 1/2 grey 1/4 whip 1/4 saluki. My dad says shes a greyhound lol (he has a 'true' lurcher. But when ever we show her all the judges can tell exactly what she is without me saying.

We bought her because she was really pretty, and was going to make the size we wanted in a dog. On the plus shes fast or we think she is anyway.

We may breed with her in the future, but have no idea what to, like u mentioned they end up almost greyhounds in the end if your not careful.

At least the people who have non-ped whippets have the courtsy to call them 'non-ped whips' rather than a lurcher! But these people with almost full greyhounds still want to call them a lurcher and race them against lurchers.
