From my grooming days here is a Lurcher called Zeus that used to come in for a yearly clip off-No 2 all over-i hated doing it looked so much better with a rough coat!!! Here's before

Here's one having a nice scrub :clown:

And after a blow dry-no haircut for this one thankfully!!

 My little yorkie-thing used to hate being clipped and used to hide for hours after. Once she came out and my parents burst out laughing at her, so she went and hid again. She felt so naked and embarrassed!

Stella the Afghan who came very regularly to remove knots but then didn't come for a year-she arrived in a right state matted solid and needed a clip off that the owner refused so i wonder what happened to her in the end

My sister's retired Greyhound Voddi getting pampered RIP

A Bundle of Bedlington's chilling out before their afternoons pampering :clown:

Yes, was discussing this with OH after the lure coursing. His school friend had several, all rescues that had terrible coats which were periodically shorn off. How DO you keep an afghan's coat in condition? it must be a full-time job  (the ones on Sat were super though, action pics tomorrow, hopefully).

And waiting for their owner after their summer clips :D

Just wondering actually if i should be posting pics of people's dogs without permission or does it not matter??? I've got loads more of all sorts of breeds if anyone wants to have a laugh!! Not sure if i should though???

The problem with Afghan's is they are so mard at being groomed it is like torture when they get over a certain amount of knots, so they end up being shaved to save distressing them but other breeds would tolerate being groomed out.

Love the pics the first 2 look like two different dogs (w00t) an Afghan would be far too much messing about for me they look lovely but when I see them on crufts the first thing I think is I wonder how long it took to do that hair

Mum used to have one ... in the pics he always looks so regal, as if he knew how handsome he was. She said he was the most unreliable dog she ever had in terms of recall, and she's now got a whippet x greyhound (w00t) who can spin on a penny when called, even if chasing quarry o:) . I'd still love to have one though ... stunning dogs. But yes, all that hair ...

I am always tempted with getting an Afghan, until i go simulated coursing or racing and see the owners trying in vain to catch them afterwards   it would drive me bonkers and i could not stand having a dog i had to mainly keep on a lead on walks...but i miss the grooming i always seem to end up with smooth Lurchers so i get quite bored grooming them!!!! -_- and look what i've ended up with an Iggy with the shortest easiest coat to look after in the world   She needs a Pledge duster rather than a dog brush!!!!

I knew an Afghan years ago who was not bad obedience wise, until one day it spotted a hot air balloon, ran after it and the dog was never found again :( :(

I was stewarding at an obedience show last year, and one lady did a most impressive round of 'B' class obedience at a very high standard with an AFGHAN!!! (w00t) Although she was fairly slow compared to a collie, she did everything she was asked to do, even scent discrimination, beautifully.

Mind you, this lady must have been a fantastic trainer (and one who really enjoyed a challenge ;) ) cos she had a gorgeous Borzoi bitch doing obedience too, and this one was so keen, and loved to have a really good play with a tuggy toy at the end.

The rough-haired lurcher does look better with his coat on, but having a hairy four month old lurcher pup, I can understand the owner's reason for wanting it clipped!

This is an interesting thread. Have you ever groomed a Miniature Schnauzer? (w00t) Probably easier than an Afghan though. :- "

Yes quite often had to clip Schnauzers who used to come every 3 months on average, usually the miniature but not many Standard. My old bosses had 2 Giant Schnauzers, a black one and a salt and pepper one, boy did they take a long time to do, alot of work and they hardly ever had them done so i had to start from scratch every time with no lines to follow :sweating: :sweating: Don't think i've any pics of the breed though

Why on earth would anyone want to clip a rough-coated lurcher? ;)
