Hi

I'm a newcomer to this forum and would be interested to learn anything about lure coursing. I have a Spanish Galgo and would like eventually to have some fun with him, but would love to learn more first.

I'm a dog training and behaviourist, working in North Yorkshire so, don't have that much time to travel, etc. but would love to be able to watch some lure coursing to help us learn more about the sport.

Is there any way that a non KC registered dog can lure course for "fun"? I'm not really interested in competition, just interested in all things doggy!

Thanks

Debbie

Hi Debbie, and welcome to K9.

I just want to know where you got your Galgo from, as I've admired them as a breed since seeing them on the continent a few years ago.

Regards,

dukie

Hi Debbie,

I run a lure courasing club in Lancashire (which would be your closest) your more than welcome to dcome down for a chat and to see what & how we do things.

Lure coursing is just a bit of fun for the dogs and owners, we meet run the dogs and have a laugh.

if your interested coming down 1 week for a look e/mail me and i'll send you directions.

you can get the dates ect in the Clubs section under The North West Lure Coursing Club.

hope that helps

oh I forgot to say, yes you would be able to give your dog a run.

Hi Mark and Dukie

I got my Galgo from "Greyhounds In Need". GIN is a charity which rescues hundreds of Galgos and ex-racers from all over Spain. They are rehomed in Northern Europe and a few to the UK. The UK is bursting with dogs needing rehoming so not many Galgos come this way. My Galgo has been really badly treated, he's covered in scars and it's obvious that he has psychological scars too. I've had him nearly two years now. GIN are always looking for homes for ex-racers and Galgos - any offers?

And yes, I'd love to know more about the coursing event in Lancashire. It's not that far from North Yorks is it? Calvin, my Galgo, loves running, mostly with my Border Collie - they race for the thrown toy!

I also have Border Terriers - can they lure course too?

Thanks for the replies.
