would it help injurys as dogs wouldnt be flying into the lure and each other just look about for it ???.

talked about this before but folks not keen on trying it ?????????

It can give a hell of a burn if you skid/slide/fall on it :sweating:

Sorry dave, still dont think it's a good idea.If the dogs haven't got the lure to focus on,then they could start running about.Greater chance of injury possible then.Just my opinion

Agree with you on this one Karen

One major advantage of dogs all going in the same direction at high speed is they're less likely to kill one another. The one good thing about a visible target is that they'll all be stopping to get it wheras if it dissapears, calamity is sure to ensue. Just look at races where the lures snapped and some dogs run on, they all start turning their heads to one another and we're all trying to get them to stop.

The only way I could see to stop dogs coming into contact with one another would be running up tapes to their owners waving a rag. I wasn't there at the time so I don't know how safe this was either but there's a fair few who've seen these races and could comment.

Mr Bentley? Would you care to discuss those chuckers now?!! :D

example, highgates set up works?????

similar idea bunny disappears, very safe knock off?? dogs dont go daft.

the type of material would have to be looked at astra turf example as its green???? doesnt have to be green???

we school a dog to chase a lure and to get the lure @ the end. bend racing is totally different to straight racing. theres not much space for them to run all over if the rag does dissapear unless they jump the fence whereas on the straights they have a big field. therefore im with rodders on this one.

just curious to know how u think this wud stop injuries dave? personally i think it wud cause them as like wild whippies says wot wud the dogs focus on????

when i was lure driving many years ago at braeswood wrc we used to run it under apiece of carpet and some sacks filled withstraw i was amased when i came back to the sport that this wasnt the set up still as it worked so well then and now dogs were running all over the place at the end of a race dogs just used to pile into the sacks and you just plucked them out maybe its worth another try tom thurrock club

Maybe do as they do in America, have a lure with many 'tails' trailing so there is one for each dog; a piece of fur which is not heavy could be fixed to a main lure, these are then staggered at slightly different lengths giving the dogs something each to have as their own prize!!!!

Just a thought x

Seems like a good idea that Chris but my only thought is its like giving 5 children 5 toys for some unknown reason they all always want the same one (w00t)

Remember racing when at the knock off there would be sacks full of straw but i thought that was just to stop dogs running into pulleys, or the lure table etc as often the lure was driven directly at the front where the pull up was, not from the side of the track, this used to happen at both Shireoaks and Kiveton WRC's but the dogs still had their prize at the end the lure !!

well if you watch highgate they through a bunny in as the lure goes down the tunnel some go for it some try to follow but you very rarely see them pile into each other.

so if it went under a carpet or suitable material they would pull up without pilling into each other just stand and look around.

folks seem reluctant to try things if could help prevent injurys must be worth a try.

our sadie (club dog) her last 2 hip injurys due to dogs pilling into the dog not the lure so rather than carry on until she gets a bad injury she retired .but if it was safer i would of kept her going as she loves her racing and has had over 200 races with very little problem(hellbound breeding tough as nails)

why not try the same as lurcher racing and stop the lure under a duvet. The dogs shouldnt be runing around after the finish as you will be there to pick them up as normal . If your dog is lure mad it will still chase the lure no matter where the lure finishes.

Totally disagree.Your right it has been used in lurcher racing for a fair few years now,and seeing as I came from lurcher racing, had first hand experience of this.My dogs have always been trained to be lure crazy, including when I was lurcher racing.I wasalways at the top to get them off the lure after a race, cause George always slipped. On the occassions we raced where the lure dissappeared under a duvet or something similar,I used to have to carry a carrier bag in my pocket, and hope that once the race had ended my dogs would here me shake the bag,and come to me.On occassion I was lucky to get them, but it only took 1 dog to take off running, then theyl'd all go including mine, and once dogs are running without focusing on a lure anything can and often does happen.Take it from somebody who's been there David,it's asking for trouble. :sweating:
