Well what can I say about the little o:) .

We have descovered that although she was advertised as house trained she most certainly is not.

Even when the door is open and she is playing outside with her brother sister and mum she wil come in and wee in the house1

Needless to say she now goes out and is shut out until I have seen her do something .She is now slowly putting on some more weight ,is settling in and is becoming more like her old self .If she carries on the way she is going I will have to go back to calling by her puppy name 'THUG'

I will post more pictures of her when I get to take some and keep you posted on her progress

Has anyone any experience in house training five month old pups ? She was more or les house trained when she left us just the odd accident in the house but most of the time if the door was shut she would ask to go out.

Your query about housetraining made me realise it's an area I haven't covered in FAQ, so I've just had a bit of a hunt around and added some new links which might be helpful for you.

FAQ thread on housetraining

Hopefully you'll get lots of good advice here too! I seem to remember reading recently that it was a case of "back to basics". Take them out for a wee every hour, don't allow them free access to the garden (so that they know in is different from out), use a crate if you have one, not telling them off but just popping them straight outside and clearing up quietly, lots and lots of praise when they do it in the right place.

Good luck

Yep it's just back to basics I'm afraid. The difficulty of house training an older pup is that they can hang on for some time unlike a puppy so if you are doing the standing in the garden to wait to praise them for going out there routine you can stand there for ages.

But you'll get there if I can do it anyone can.

Yes patience is a virtue :- " :- " Having the same trouble with Kobi - he hates the rain and came back from a longish walk yest morning - and he came straight back home - piddled on the lino then pood on the carpet. (w00t) Little Begger

The best way to house train her is to have a very tasty treat to hand, take her to the garden and wait, when she eventually does go, immediately put the command in (wee, empty or whatever you want) and give her a treat -I use liver cake or cheese, something extra tasty. From then on it's a matter of repeating the above (especially first thing in the morning and after meals or a nap.) The penny will drop (if you excuse the pun!!) Timing is really important, you must get the command and treat in immediately, then she links the two. It will be easier at first if she is without the other dogs, the minimum of distractions!!

I had over 20 completely un-housetained dogs from the stray kennels, it really is a matter of patience and timing. If she was almost house trained when she left you, it should come back quite quicklyGood Luck!!!
