Max decided he was fed up of Tiny getting all the attention with his gigantic bruise, so he thought it would be a good idea to slice and dice his leg!

I think he did it on chicken wire because it is a very clean cut with little bleeding and only about 2 inches in length, although it was a bit too close to a large vein in the back leg for my liking!

So off we went to the vet (not my usual vet) again because although there was no blood I could see muscle. They decided not to stitch because the skin edges are too far apart and would cause movement problems if they were pulled together. Actually there is only a teeny bit of muscle exposed the rest is flesh.

So, for a couple of injections and a clean out I have had to part with £50!! It's a good job I love my boys! :huggles:

:huggles: To Max get well soon

Bet your vets accountant loves your boys

Yep, I'm thinking of taking out shares!

This was a completely different vet's surgery though - I don't think we'll be going back, unless it's a serious emergency involving lots of blood cos my usual vet is 15 miles away.

Well, it looks like he's on the mend..... unfortunately he keeps licking it and opening it up, but despite making it bleed the cut is looking smaller, still rather ickky though.

Thanks for all the good wishes

Know how you feel about vet bills. I bought a grey for £300 mainly as a kennel mate for her brother. Let her run now and again as she loved it. First she was attacked by another dog at the end of a race. The other dog latched onto her ear tearing nearly half of it off. First trip to vet costing £100 approx. Then she smashed a toe during a race. Second trip £300 approx. Toe was removed. Next we gave her a trail a few weeks ago after a long layoff. Just a handslip on the bend. She slipped and smashed her leg. This trip to vet has so far cost in excess of £300 and she still has more x-rays to get after the plaster os removed in a fortnight. We just desparately want to save the leg. We dont care is she has a limp. We have been with the same vet for over 12 years and wouldn't go anywhere else and we trust her judegement.

I hope Max gets better soon. If the irritation gets worse try putting Sudocreme on it, this will relieve the itching whilst it is healing and also it is an antiseptic so will speed up the healing process whilst keeping it clean. I used it on one of my other dogs when he had a large gash on his back leg. Worked wonders would heardly know hed been injured.

Thank you! He is loads better now - although I still think he would have been better with a stitch because he is going to have a biggish scar now.

It is healing up quite well despite constant licking and reopening of the cut - I've gone through heaps of hibiscrub!! (w00t) The cut is definitely smaller though!

Poor girlie, hope she gets better soon! :huggles: It's always so scary when something happens to them! Mine seem to be extra accident prone - although I do tend to worry loads because my previous dog (GSD) had everything wrong with her that could go wrong in GSDs (except bad ears) so we had loads of vet visits and spent thousands on her. I'm still learning to chill out about Max and Tiny because they are not Hazel. :huggles:

:luck: I hope they can save her leg - can they pin it? Have you got any piccies of her - I love piccies!
