We've been lucky enough to have two of ours hit sixteen (and one 17 and a half which was amazing) and in each case I think they were left to grow old with me because someone up there knew how incredibly important those two dogs were to to me. It is such a joy to own and live with an older whippet -- and such an incomprehensible tragedy that this most wonderful of creatures and most wonderful of breeds, is more normally left to us for a decade or a decade and a half and then so suddenly taken from us.

I am so glad for you that Mayzee had a wonderful 16th birthday and I am pulling for her to to continue on towards her next milestone.

Aaaaaaaaaaaw! Happy Birthday Mayzee!

As you know Jax, I lost my old black dog, Dante, to renal failure but he continued for a year after being diagnosed, much to my Vet's amazement. We didn't bother with special diet food as he was very picky ............. he survived mainly on sausages! He also had Fortekor and anabolic steroids daily and continued with his twice daily walks almost right up to the end but when he went down, he went downhill very quickly.

Hope Mayzee continues to remain well, it is like living with a time bomb!
