Hello everyone,

Just joined today and wanted to say hello! This is Fynn — my gorgeous Rough Collie. He’s three now and we live in Plockton, a little loch-side village in the Scottish Highlands.

He’s a gentle soul, but cheeky with it — and my best friend. I’ve also written and illustrated a few dog stories, inspired by dogs like him.

Looking forward to chatting and learning from all you dog lovers!

Warmly,
James

Welcome - I have a very soft spot for rough collies as our first family dog was a rough collie. I still remember being shown into her run at the pet shop, when I was 4 and she was 2, as the pet shop owner wanted to show us how gentle she was. Not sure many parents would let that happen now!

Plockton is beautiful, too - we visited there last year on a holiday in the Highlands. And also when I was 10, though all I remember of that is my aunt, uncle and family getting stranded on the little island when the tide came in🤣

That’s such a lovely memory — thank you for sharing it. I agree, not many would allow that now! But those early bonds with dogs really stay with us, don’t they?

Fynn is very gentle too — sometimes almost too polite! I’ve had Shelties before, but Rough Collies are something else. You’ve got great taste!

And I’m so glad you visited Plockton — what a funny memory about the island! It really does vanish with the tide. I’ve lived here most of my life, and still get caught out walking the loch paths sometimes!

Thanks again for the warm welcome. I look forward to being part of the community 😊

Welcome from me too. I've also visited Plockton, many years ago. You live in a beautiful part of Scotland.

Hi Joanne,
Thank you so much for the kind welcome. That’s amazing to hear your dog Timber is over 15 — what a beautiful bond you must have. Our last dog Blaze passed at just 6 from bowel cancer, and we now have Fynn, a 3-year-old Rough Collie who is the gentlest soul.
Plockton does have its magic — but I imagine your memories of it are even more special with the years that have passed.
Warmest wishes,
James x

Hi and welcome to you and the lovely Fynn from me too😊

Hi Flobo,
Thank you so much — that means a lot! Fynn will be pleased to hear he’s been called lovely — he’s got the softest heart (and the fluffiest tail).
It’s been really uplifting to meet so many kind people here — I already feel like this is going to be a very special place.
Warm wishes,
James x

Hi Forest Womble,
Thank you so much — Fynn’s blushing under all that fur! He’s a gentle boy with a big heart, and it’s lovely to know he’s already making friends here.
Appreciate the kind welcome 🌼
Warmly,
James

Howdy Buzzer!
That clip made me smile — Clint’s got nothing on Fynn though! 😂
Thank you — Fynn’s a gentle boy with a lot of love to give. He’s my shadow, my soulmate, and he’s been a quiet hero through some hard times.

Really appreciate the warm welcome. It means a lot.
Hope you and your furry friend are doing well too 🐾

He's beautiful! I have a soft spot for rough collies as we have one living next door who is a lovely dog.

Thank you so much!
Rough Collies do seem to leave a gentle mark on everyone they meet. Fynn’s been a real blessing in my life — calm, loyal, and a bit of a dreamer, like me.
That’s lovely that you’ve got one next door too — they’re such soulful dogs, aren’t they?

Thanks again for the kind words,
— James

And I’m so glad you visited Plockton
Plockton is an amazing place, in large part because it's so different to the surrounding area - the flowers! the posh yachts! The big posh house on top of the hill, with its own little railway station! The coral beach just along the coast was enchanting, too. I want to go back now... shame I live in Dorset!

Welcome aboard! Great pic, thanks for sharing :)
Thanks so much — and it’s lovely to be here!

I’ve been amazed by how kind and welcoming everyone is.

That pic of Fynn means a lot — he’s my soul dog really, keeps me grounded and smiling. I’ve had a tough few years and he’s been my shadow through it all.

Looking forward to sharing more soon — and thanks again!

Thank you, Judy — that’s such a lovely reflection! The way you described Plockton brought a real smile to my face. It’s true — there’s something dreamlike about the place, especially in summer with the wildflowers and the boats bobbing gently in the bay.

The little railway station is still there, and the coral beach remains one of the hidden treasures of the west coast. You’d be warmly welcomed if you ever made it back up — Dorset must be beautiful too, though!

Really appreciate your kind words and welcome.
