I PAID EXTRA FOR A THERMO MICRO-CHIP FOR OUR LAST PUP, BUT WHEN I WENT TO THE VETS YESTERDAY TO ASK FOR OUR NEW PUP THEY SAID THEY ARE NOT DOING THEM ANYMORE BECAUSE THEY WERE FINDING LOTS DID NOT WORK!

ANYONE ELSE FOUND THIS BE INTERESTING TO KNOW?

Whats the difference between those and the tradition chip Snapdogs, do the show under heat, sorry to be ignorant I've never heard of them

The thermo ones also transmit the dog's temperature, so no need for thermometers in uncomfortable places  .

Our vet is still doing them, in fact they don't do the other type any more.

I'd never heard of these  so googled and came up with this

"The Bio-Thermo Identichip is a microchip with an identification code unique to your pet; this is completely safe and implanted under the skin between your pet's shoulder blades giving permanent individual identification. In addition the chip has a NEW revolutionary development. It incorporates a temperature detecting biosensor that can record the pets temperature in an accurate and efficient way. Just think if your pet is ill, one quick scan can record its temperature and reduce any further stress rather than reading the temperature the conventional way."

Worrying if they don't seem to be working.

I'm not into microchipping but I am seriously thinking about having my next litter tattooed.

another thing.......... does anyone else think that it would be easy for a thief to remove a chip from a dog? after all it is just uner the skin!

you see tatooed dogs with their ears cut off.... I know that is to stop them being recognised after they are dumped but if you had stolen a whippet surely it would be a very easy thing to remove... one of our dogs chips had migrated down onto her chest! the other 3 have remained in place.

for any new puppy owners who have decided to chip their pet, you can have the ordinary chip (ie:- minus temperature taking ability ) done by the National Dogs Trust for only £9.50

Why are you not into microchipping? I am just curious,no other reason :)

That's all right, I'm not precious!!

Mainly because they do migrate, you do hear of them being applecored out and the one dog I did 'lose' was only idenitied because she was wearing a collar and tag, a chip would have been no use to her whatsoever because she was killed on the railway after going off hunting and the Railtrack men buried her but kindly removed her collar before doing so and it was subsequently returned to me.

I know ear flaps can be cut off to prevent identification but I think someone being offered a dog with one ear is probably going to be more suspicious than of one with an 'injury' on its shoulder (which would probably heal in time anyway)! This is also the reason I would rather have tattoos done on the inner thigh.

Obviously both my foreigners are chipped but TJ's is in his jugular groove and my Vet was amazed cos the scanner picked it up as she came through the door which is about 4' from the table he was standing on!!! She had never got a reading like that!! LOL!

That's a very sad story about your dog :'( But at least the workmen were kind enough to bury her for you and you then got the collar back, very upsetting but as you say at least you knew what happened to her rather than wondering if she had been stolen or not. Ours are micro-chipped plus wear a collar with our name & tel no on it and their license too!! I'm hedging all bets here!

The inside leg is a good place for a tattoo,at least they can't cut off a leg?? though with a tattoo can you erase it by cuttting it out?

And one last question....sorry :b is tattooing expensive?

NDTR

Here's the link for the National Dog Tattoo Register website, they give all the prices on there.

Pity, they don't have any in the North of Ireland :(

It's a shame if they are not working properly because they sound like a good idea, I will get Kane chipped the others are it give a little piece of mind,(although the needle is HUGE :sweating: ) I know they can be removed but the only sure fire way of making sure your dog never gets lost or stolen is to sit in the house with it 24/7 and never let them out of your sight which is impossible so at least something is better than nothing IMO

i know i work at vets and all my animals are biotherm chipped, we hace noticed that the scanners arent detected the chips- we are worried! cos pets could get lost and even tho theyre chipped they wouldnt be located by scanning.... not good.

and yes chips can be cut out quite easily- a falconer told me, apparently the only reliable way to trace animals now is dna tracing! really sad..

Alfie has the thermo chip, we ask the Vet to check it when we visit, which is at least once a year... personally I'd like to check the chip was working everytime we left the house..... :- "
