. Took Milly and Poppy out for their walk/run on Monday and everything was ok, Tuesday Milly wouldn't eat her breakfast and was sick during the day. I assumed that she had eaten some rubbish so I took her to the vets this morning and got the devastating news that she has chf (heart failure) and is critical, in pain and recommended putting her to sleep. She can only stand up for a few minutes. Milly is 13 on 1st May. What do I do.

Oh I'm so sorry! You must be heartbroken!

Is she still with the vets or have you taken her home while you make the decision?

Its the most awful but kindest thing you can do for them.

We made the decision with our last GSD 4 years ago when she was 13. It was obvious she had had enough and we were selfishly willing her to carry on for us. Like your Milly she could only get to her feet for a few minutes at a time and we knew she would hate to be like that. It absolutely broke our hearts but I would do the same again in a heartbeat.

I took her home and she died in her bed with me by her side at 3.30 am this morning. I am Absolutely devastated I have had her since she was 10 weeks old. JG

Oh I'm so very sorry and sad for you and your family.

It sounds as though Milly felt peaceful enough with you by her side to slip away and she is no longer suffering or in any pain.
