For 500g of mince add 165g Veg

100g mince/veg mix = 250kcal
100g Mixer (Pedigree) =330kcal

I have started cooking Co Op 20% fat mince for my dogs 2x Collies
basically just quickly fry mince in pressure cooker and pressure cook for 7 mins add the finally chopped veg after for a further 10mins and
that's it. Just looking for feed back

Just put example for one of the dogs he weighs 21Kg

"Eddie" needs 1240 kcal day

mince/veg mix 350g
Mixer 100g
Bonio x 3 @ 78Kcal each

I'm not an expert, but I'd say that's not very balanced. Pedigree isn't a great brand, and the mixer will be mostly filler - though it does at least have added vitamins & minerals. Bonios again are pretty much filler - fine for a snack, but in the same way we'd have a biscuit.

When feeding meat, there should be a good range of protein sources, and some offal. Cooking it is also likely to destroy some of the nutrients.

Dogs can't necessarily extract much nutrition from chopped raw veg - lightly cooked (steamed) or really well pureed is better.

I'm sorry to sound so negative:oops: Again, I'm not an expert, and this is just what I've picked up from reading about dog diets over the years. But there's been precious little scientific research over the years about what constitutes a 'perfect' diet.

Hi Judy Thank you for your feed back I really appreciate it as I'm just starting out trying to improve my dogs diet

Have you considered a raw diet? There's several raw feeders on here. Or there's an excellent guide to commercial brands here: AllAboutDogFood.co.uk You can specify your dogs' age, weight, etc. and your budget, and it will recommend and rate different brands.
