Hi folks,

Who all are going at the weekend? Hope the weather improves a bit, don't fancy standing in the middle of a field getting soaked (w00t) (w00t)

It should be a good fair this year, it's getting bigger every time, and it's nice to have judges over from the mainland aswell.

Good luck for the showing and racing, hope to see you all there

Regards,

dukie

 Hi Dukie, hope to be going there at the weekend if i get the time off work, also noticed in the Countryman's Weekly that the Mid Antrim WTLC are running a Lurcher and Terrier show at Florence Court on Sunday 29 May.

Hi Dazgail, is there diffenetly lurcher racing at florencecourt on sunday because if there was i would def go to that? i never heard anything about flourencecourt this year:unsure:

Hi Dukie, im going on the saturday, so are you gona race Alfred in the simulated coursing then?

Hi MissMadam

Yep, Alfred will be there, so long as I can find his muzzle (w00t) (w00t)

Was talking to one of the guys that run the show and he is definately starting the simulated coursing early, about 11 or 12 o'clock, because after that heavy dogs are being judged first, then the terriers and lurchers will follow, and then straight racing after all the showing.

See you there,

dukie

Well i am gona go earlish cause i dont wanna miss the simulated coursing, i think it is really good to watch, and if you need a muzzle i will prob hav a spare anyway

Oh and Stormydog, yeah i did actually get the tax sorted, lol, :p :sweating: thank god cus the cops were drivin behind me for a while today, lol, :sweating: but its all sorted now,lol god im such a panicker, lol :p :sweating:

 Hi Miss Madam, according to the ad there will be racing at florence court. Can anyone tell me if there is showing and racing both days at Moira. Also seen some Game Fair advertised in the telegraph last nite on the west coast of ireland...will post details when i find the paper.

I thought we already had a thread on this topic? after all, that's how I found out about the event

there is some info on the Moira event at http://www.irishfieldsports.com/ncf/terriers.htm

the showing is on Sat only, early afternoon, the lure coursing is both mornings from 10.30 and the racing is both evenings from 5-7 pm ... though it seems to me they should be running earlier on the Sun. Although I was able to get a dog-friendly b&b and so decided to stay overnight, I want to be home before 8 pm Sun. I won't be going for the second day's racing if it really doesn't start till 7 pm

muzzles are definitely required for racing at Moira

If you can't borrow one, you can probably buy one on the day. there is a pet supply business in Moira - I saw them selling crates, leads, dog food, etc at a stand at a pedigree dog show in Dublin last year

I hadn't heard about Florencecourt until I read this thread today. That venue is nearer to where I live. It would be tempting to go to Moira Sat and Florencecourt Sun but I don't have transport. I can go to Moira because it is on the train line, but I have to lug a huge dog-cage with me as NI rail now require dogs to be crated.

(w00t) I think we should all pack our wellies and waterproofs right now as the weather isn't meant to be good this weekend for Moira  :( !! I reckon the beer  tent might do well though....with all us doggie folk looking shelter and refreshments :D !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let's keep our fingers , and all other bodily parts crossed, that the weathermen have got it wrong 8) .

SEE YOU ALL THERE BRIGHT AND EARLY ON sATURDAY...............

 I knew that there was details on another thread about the Moira Game Fair but i couldn't be bothered looking for the info. Must be the male blood in me being so lazy

Personally speaking i wish they would do all the racing before the shows as if it is a very hot day it can take a lot out of the dogs having to stand around all day and then to race. Also once the showong is over people have a tendancy to leave where as if all the racing is before the shows it's a great spectacle for the crowds. Then again it looks like we'll not need our sun lotion for the weekend.

Also if anyone is looking info for the florence court show i have the contact numbers of those running it as it was in the ad. Just let me know and i will send them to you by email.

Macha, i wish you all the very best at whichever shows you go to as you deserve it as not many would travel to the show by train. You must be mad about your dogs

In fact good luck to everyone this coming weekend...Hope to a see you all :D

or do you really mean "You must be mad"?

"I won't be going for the second day's racing if it really doesn't start till 7 pm"

I wrote that but of course I meant 5 pm, not 7

the racing is scheduled from 5-6 pm both days according the the Moira game fair website

Hi all, just thought id say it was really good to meet some of you'se at Moira Gamefair, its nice to be able to put faces to names :p

I ended up going both days, & did quite well, cody got a second in the showing & Torri got a first in the showing, she won her heat in the racing but i think she got bumped in the final a bit which made her fall back not sure wat happened but she didnt do well in the final but then i raced her on the sunday aswell & she ended up winning the final :D so proud of her,lol :D :p

So did the rest off you have a good day & any joy with your dogs? :)

I was there on the Saturday and had a great day .......despite the rotten weather!!!! My whippet bitch Emma won the whippet race only 9 weeks after giving birth to seven lovely puppies. (w00t) I was delighted and so proud of her  Can't wait to race her when she's had chance to really get fit again................I hope the pups turn out to be as quick and eager as her !!

just to update some info from the earlier messages about Moira

there was a question earlier on about showing neutered dogs and someone said the lurcher judge wouldn't be looking. Well, he most certainly was feeling the balls of all the male dogs, if they had any. I had to explain that the rescue people had had my dog doctored as a matter of policy (before I ever saw him). The judge also asked about the dogs' breeding, and I can only guess at mine dog's background.

it's true the show dragged on for ages and we were getting tired waiting on the racing. The show classes were very large and there was no room to move the dogs properly; I do think movement is one of the most important qualities. Many more dogs were entered in the show than in the races.

although the organisers had told me by e-mail that muzzles would be required for the racing, no dogs wore muzzles

I go to Ireland with OH every year and we stopped off in Moira one day because the person travelling with us was called Moira and she wanted her photo taken next to the roadsign MOIRA - lovely little place with some quaint little gift shops.

Didnt realise there would be a game fair there - pity I cant come over.

Anyone there heard of Agrihealth NI - my hubby works for them.

Hi Macha,

Just a wee query, which rescue did you get your whippy from? Judges will look for testicles on males no matter what type of show, it just depends how much value that judge holds on a dog having to be entire, it doesn't stop them working after all.

Will you be going to any of the other shows?

All the best,

dukie
