Coolangata Gold is a good one Lana, now how about some southern names
Can't I rely on you for that?

Don't tell anyone Lana, but Victorian names are boring eg. Lakes Entrance, Daylesford, Swan Hill etc

And wasn't "I've Been Everywhere" a good attempt?

Yes I was impressed Lana

What about Kirribilli House ? And the Jerilderie Letter ? They're south ... south of Qld anyhow, maybe not as far south as you! :teehee:

Amy Johnson (1903-1941) learned to fly in 1927 with the London Aeroplane Club. At one point, she was the only female Ground Engineer in the world. Johnson was the first woman to fly solo from England to Australia in November of 1932

Perhaps the one going to Germany could be called Barossa Valley after our famous wine growing region which was largely settled by German immigrants.

NB - "Ullaru" (Ayre's Rock) is spelt ULURU.

Cfa Ceely - what about if all puppies were named Australian places starting with C??????? :) :p

I hardly know how to choose from this wonderful selection of names. My son and I are going to print out all the suggestions and save them till the pups have eyes open and a bit of personality and then we are going to try to match pups, personality and expression to the names. There are so very many wonderful names here and I have no clue at this point how we can really narrow it down, but we shall have to. The good news is we plan to keep one of the litter (we are boy dog people which is difficult for people who breed so we are planning to keep the girl if she looks really good) and so we will pick a name that clicks, but the stud dog is positively astonishing and we will be using him a number of times again, in future, and we have outside bitches booked in to him too (you just need to watch him move and you know why....). We have themed several of our males, to date: Ch. Nevedith Local Lancer's pups have all been named after single malt scotch whiskies so we always know when we see a Lagavulin, or Macallan or Glenmorangie or whatever, who dad or granddad was. Ch. Avalonia Wotta Jesta, our Just Jesta son, has had all his pups named after Jazz and Blues greats, mostly of the past and we have kept three -- two females A. Ella Fitzgerald and A. Bille Holiday and for males we chose the name of a person who speaks to us most as Canadians -- the recently deceased, fabulous jazz pianist Oscar Peterson -- rivalled only, in the more distant past, by the great Art Tatum (haven't used his name yet, but we shall on a future litter).

Our original plan was to assign Greek god names to Avalonia Edradour children ( a son of Lancer, named after a Scottish single malt brewed at a distillery I actually visited and bought a bottle of from, this dog's call name is Apollo) but after seeing the wealth of wonderful Austalian suggestions we have decided all future pups bred from Apollo by us will carry the Australian theme forward. So in future if someone sees a pup with a notably Australian name, they will know who the sire is.

On a final note or two in closing, one of A. Edradour or his litter brother A. Glenlochy - both Canadian champions and both so very similar in type -- was originally supposed to go to Australia to a man who had waited us out as we tried to pick the dog we would keep and then, at the last minute he decided to invest his money (not what he would have paid for the dog -- make no mistake) in a pool business and so he deferred buying the dog. So we kept both. So an Australian theme here is very fitting.

And as my final note, I had the pups in to the vet this afternoon and they weighed between 13.5 and 14.5 ounces each as they entered the third day of their lives. We are very happy with their state of health, and positively delighted with all the names we are assembling for now and future litters featuring A. Edradour!

Australia rocks! But you guys knew that already, didn't you?

Lanny

can, if we wish, do as we have done with other of our whippets

Congratulations Lanny

It will be difficult to choose a name :sweating: :sweating:

And since the pups were born on Australia's national day we have taken this as a sign that the litter should be named after places in Australia!
Ooh! Ooh! Can us Aussies help with name suggestions?????? :D

Picture Perfect Perth

Or purely interesting names of towns like

Wangaratta

Coolangatta

Eungella (pron. Young - gell (with a hard 'g' and short 'e') - la

Wagga Wagga

Coober Pedy

I can come up with heaps if you want 'em! Glad to be of service! :p

And actually Lanny - there is a tiny little place in Qld called ..... LANA! (w00t)

Congrats on a very pretty litter.

Love, love love those suggestions. We have Oz relatives and my brother got married in Australia after meeting his future wife on a cruise ship destined for Australia after he finished his masters degree in limnology and decided to explore the Great Barrier Reef for the southern equivalent of our northern eco-system.!

There is also the fact that Noreen Harris imported Ms. Ceely's sire to Australia years ago and as far as I know N. Rare Rogue children are all over the southern hemisphere -- as well they should be given the excellence of his bloodlines. His children -- returned to the UK -- have done astonishingly well for Jessie McLeod, as well they should have. We have, ourselves, a male dog -- Cdn.Ch. A. Reckless Rogue out of Ceely sired by Fin.Swed.Cdn.Ch. Scheik's Ardbeg Avalonia -- that we honestly think is better than his grandsire -- and those are huge shoes to fill.

I have two sets of really excellent opal earrings from Coober Pedy -- one set that my brother brought me and one set that my parents picked up for me in the early 90s when they too visited Australia for four weeks, and I am heir to three pieces of aboriginal art from Woolora that my parents bough and brought back.

We need four really good boy names and one excellent girl name. We will likely keep the bitch, simply because we always keep males and we added up the number of boys vs girls of breedable age and discovered we have a distinct deficit in females that are under 7! -- but that said at least of the boys are headed to show homes -- one in Canada and one in Germany and we are content. We would be thrilled with authentic Australian suggestions!

Lanny

Lovely pups from a lovely mum Lanny and are you going to post an updated pic of Reckless Rogue too? We have an Ch. 'oldie' here by the N. Rogue before he left the UK, loved his type & offspring too.

If you don't mind snow let me take a picture of our Rogue in the next couple of days and post it. I think this is the truest dog to N. Rare Rogue I have seen... A small dog -- just 19.5 inches and so so sound, coming and going with extraoardinarily fluid movement.... he floats, he doesn't seem to walk. We have an awful lot of faith in our Reckless Rogue and what he shall produce. We also own

a Rare Rogue daughter, N. Wotta Wispa who is getting on in years

and who was directed to us by our good friend Pip Campbell when she realized her health would not allow her to keep Wispa. Her children are our two top Jesta sired producers - Chs. A. Wotta Jesta (call name Nev) and A. Wotta Wispa (call name Edith, of course).

Will look forward to the pics, , and just LOVE those names, hope Nev & Edith appreciate them too. :) Your updated pics would be most welcome and most interesting too.

Here are the Ceely pups, including the girl who is likely to be called Avalonia Waltzing Matilda. Many years ago now I got persuaded to take over a bar piano when the guy who was supposed to be entertaining took an extended break he patrons considered to be too long. With a roomful of Australian tourists I asked what they would like to hear and they said Anything Australian. I musta played Waltzing Matilda ten times that night! By the time I left the bar I had the top of the piano covered with drinks I could not safely consume, thanks to their generosity. I know every word of that unofficial Australian national anthem to this day!

This photo shows the Ceely pups at 12 days. The lone girl in this litter of 5 is the darker brindle one in the middle of the photo.
