i've decided, for the time being at least, to run Dij with a muzzle in the park....think it will give me a chance to assess how his 'not barking' at other dogs is going, without the risk of accidents!

trouble is, HE HATES IT! spent his whole walk this morning trying to rub it off his face - and poor little lolly (JRT we know well) was terrified of her 'hannibal lecter pal!)

he has a blue plastic box muzzle (the kind with a padded bit over the nose) - but was wondering if there are any that are more comfy? i've noticed pics of racing whips with light wire muzzles - might these be better?

Am happy to pay out for something that he's gonna find more comfortable to wear - but don't just want to waste money on something that just looks like it is!

what are your thoughts folksies?

Don't generally muzzle my dogs, just have a normal plastic racing one for Angel at lure coursing cos she has this habit of retrieving the pulleys  BUT I did buy one of the Mikki type ones (same sort different - cheaper - make!) for TJ in an attempt to stop him troughing as much sh*t as he could when out in the fields. He got used to it and seemed to accept it very quickly. Didn't stop him eating sh*t though  as he perfected the art of sucking it into his mouth  (w00t)

i tried millie with a muzzle because of the same reasons,we got the plastic one to start with but she had her nose on the ground most of the time and ended up rubbing her nose that much it started to bleed real bad,so ended up leaving the muzzle off until her nose healed, then tried the wire racing muzzle still the same thing happened ,even after we had attached a soft piece of lambs wool in there, and there was also that worry of her running into something and the wires going into her eyes.so now she is muzzle free and if we see any other dogs around we just pop her on the lead, saves getting a roasting from other owners.

I got Tilly a light weight wire muzzle from Jan's gifts, cost £6.50 + p&p :D

i use it for racing but i have taken her out to the park in it when i was trying to stop the fighting between her and bean

I'm not sure which are the most comfortable, but the vet told me that they can bite through the racing ones if they really want to.

The plastic racing ones can be bitten thru' for sure. I pad the nose bit of wire raceing muzzels with 'mole skin' thar runners use on blisters. Can't say it's more comfortable for the dogs but it reduces the redness Sam gets from rubbing. Mine all hate the muzzels whatever kind when required to wear them (by me) at any other time apart from actually racing. It's another matter of persistance and who gives in first.

A word of warning tho'. The wire ones often have to be bent in/out/whatever to fit the dog's face properly.
