hi,

i have 2 dogs and one is the strong silent type but the other barks at everything! if there is a knock at the door she barks and growls, if there is a bang uostairs she barks, if i manage to get in the house without her barking then she sees me and barks! when we go in the front garden and my neighbour is out she barks at him too, it isnt an excited bark its more like shes scared but we cant seem to stop it, even if we keep her busy when we know someone is about to come in she still does it ask she is eating/playing, its becoming a pain! we have had her since 8 weeks and she is 18 months now and just ignoring it doesnt work, treating her when she doesnt do it sometimes does but then the next time she just barks again!!!

any ideas would be welcome

hi, had the same problem with my own small dog, purchased a dog barking collar from ebay, cant believe the difference this has made, believe it or not but she doesnt bark at all now, only whines now and then, although saying this my other small dog still barks now and then but not nearly as much as she used to, set it at high and has worked, worth a try, good luck.

A friend used a bark collar on her dog for only a couple of days - seemed to work for her, though it did seem a bit mean to the dog.
What did you decide to do?

If a dog barks because it is scared (most likely cause) and it gets a nasty surprise from its collar this could serve to make the dog more fearful. It may decide not to bark but do something else like jump up and bite. I know this sounds extreme but using aversive means to train a dog are fraught with difficulty.

Much better to get a diagnosis from a qualified Pet Behaviour Therapist and work on the solution with your dog. It is much harder work than strapping on a device but much kinder and safer in the long run.
