My Flyballing Lurcher

Hi, just joined yesterday and thought I'd let you know a bit about flyball with my lurchers. Kobi (my 3 year old) took a lot of training, no problem in running down the lane and getting the ball, but bringing it back!!!! he preferred to chase the other dog in the other racing lane. This got me and my team in lot of trouble with the other racers and the committee!!! so endless training to stop him chasing and finally we have it. He is now in our top team "Mad Mutts" and we are one of the fastest in country. Because this sport is dominated by border collies, Kobi has had a lot of attention from other teams, good and bad (referred to as "that greyhound thing by some ). Now for Forrest he is very timid and doesnt like to run from me (unless there is a squirrel!!!), he prefers just having cuddle, but this year I'm gonna train him and hopefully get him in a starters team. I also have a cross black lab, who is in a team but no match for my lurchers!!!!!!!

Oh flyball looks very interesting, love watching flyball and agility on crufts. Kobi looks lovely, i love the blaze on his face :wub: :wub:

I LOVE flyball, I've seen a few live demos and it's just amazing to watch - the great thing is that it's a superb spectator sport too - gets me all excited and squealing and jumping around (w00t) if it's close!

Wow so nice to see your Lurcher doing Flyball, super photo :thumbsup: :thumbsup: I tried Woody not long after i got him as he is made for it but the silly sod who is the most cocky fearless Lurcher i've met, was frightened of the tiny minute click sound the box makes when the ball pops out!!!! He would circle it as if there was a terrible Lurcher eating monster inside ready to jump out and eat him!!!!!!!!!!! I couldn't believe it as it's the only thing he has ever been scared of!! Keep thinking of trying him again though....

Oh Gina I think you should, it took two years for Kobi to get it right, because of my cross lab doing flyball I travel alot to shows and of course Kobi comes with me, so wanted to get him doing it. I am trying Forrest now, but reackon its gonna take ages as well. We need more lurchers in flyball (love collies but there are too many!!!!! in the sport)
