Hello,

I'm new here and we just brought home our new friend Silas today. Very exciting! He was great for the 2.5 hour car ride home too - quiet and relaxed, I was really surprised.

I went to the vet for 1st injections and they said he was small but healthy - he's 8 weeks but only 2kgs! He is very petite but in proportion - both parents are little too. Does this mean he'll be a small adult too or do growth spurts happen in whippets? His eyes are blue grey too - beautiful, but at this age do you think they'll still change? My only worry is that he's very sleepy and doesn't want to play. My guess is it's the stress of the day and the sudden removal from a litter who were probably much more fun! He wolfs food down so I find that reassuring but is it quite normal for him to seem almost a bit depressed and going to sleep all the time? As I say, it's his first day and maybe he'll stay up all night screaming for his family! Anyway, I'm over the moon to have him with us.

he is beautiful.reminds me of my whippet poppy his eyes will change colour. its a shame because they look lovley when there blue. as for him being sleepy he is only a baby so he will sleep a lot and he has been through a lot. taken from is family his home and everything thats familiar to him.ive now got three whippets and each time ive been fooled into thinking this one is so good an well behaved i cant belive it.give him a couple of days to settle in and find his feet, and get used to his new surroundings you will soon wish you had that good little dog back that was so good when you bought him home.welcome to k9 and prepare yourself for the years of fun and enjoyment your going to have with him

Like you say this is your pups first day, he will be finding his feet in his new surroundings so he will be a little on the reserved side...this should be very different over the next couple of days.

Whippets eyes are virtually always this blue colour at this age, they will darken to the correct colour over the next month or so(maybe less, possibly longer)

He doesnt look overly small (as much as I can tell from the picture).

You may be lucky & he is quiet tonight...this may change on the 2nd night or you could have hit the jackpot & he is quiet all nights

Good luck
