as some of you will know we have been doing some fun running at the grounds near to me and we have had a good response, so after having a chat with a few regulars we are aiming to start a new fun running club for hounds and all types of dogs wishing to run , for some people great yarmouth is too much of a distance every fortnight so we have kindly been offered the Total Lurcher grounds to use and this is in peterborough.

we would like to know just how many of you could possibly become regular attenders of either venue ?

how often would you like to run?

would you like to see lure coursing too in the future?

please state your ideas here on the board so we can all have a good look and see what viable for the club?

we already have insurance in place

so please have a think and see what we can all come up with , this will be a friendly running club and a chance to meet new faces

we have the Total Lurcher Event just around the corner so anyone wishing to attend then please come along with your dogs and enter a few classes!!!

look forwards to your response

Sounds like a great news for a new club and thought that it was well attended at Yarmouth, showing much potential to grow as a club. Can I ask why the change in grounds has been proposed? Wherever you have the club there will be people who live too far away. Have you thought of sharing the racing between Peterborough and Yarmouth? Or was this the idea?

If it's a 'fun running' club then people who just race for a bit of fun will be less likely to travel the distance but for the more committed and competitive they won't mind, as they will want to train their dogs and enter racing around the country.

At the moment I have observed both fun running and the much more competitive and experienced, at Yarmouth. It's great to see both ends of the scale and hope that it will encourage more folk to bring there dogs along.

Obviously, with me only living 40 minutes from Gt Yarmouth this would be my preferred venue. I also know that there are a few others from another site expressing an interest in coming along to Yarmouth.

Something I'd like to see would be the opportunity to try a few solo runs with dogs who need to gain a little experience before running with other dogs. This could be done a hour earlier for those who felt their dog would benefit from it.

Good luck with a new club either way

running will be at both venues

its to help new members and those thinking the trip to yarmouth might just be too far, so therefore encouraging for all concerned

we will be needing the orange type netting to help make running lanes , also heavy weight blanket thingy to run the lure under too,

Peterborough is more convenient for me but I dont mind travelling to Gt Yarmouth sometimes, its a shame there is nowhere in between Thetford way maybe...

No way could i get to Peterborough :(

Brill idea

When me move I shall attend as much as poss at the moment we are stuck here in no mans corner miles from anywhere.

It will be great to let the dogs Iggy's especially do what they love and is so natural for them , running !!!!!!!

Can't wait

Am bang up for this Tanya, but Yarmouth is too far away for me to be a regular ..... Peterborough is much more possible from Birmingham.

Are you thinking of sticking to Fridays? Coz realistically, even with just a 2 hour drive to Peterborough I wonder just how often I would do it after a hard week at work.

But weekends, once a fortnight in Peterborough and I bet I'll be there for most of them

im stuck to fridays here as thats when thomas goes to his club, 6-8.30pm, but the 2 branches of the club will enable a further spread of members, if we could possbly but another lure then cant see why we cant still run fortnightly at yarmouth and peterborough?

jess get a field and a lure hun and your away (w00t)

the club is for the members so as much input as poss is needed, have been asked to do just puppy nights and non runner nights, also bigger dog nights and of course iggy nights but will have to be sensible and combine all

Its seem's a shame that everybody was happy at Yarmouth and now suddenly everbody wants its moved to different places.................

I had a great night, there was plenty of running for the dogs, i met some nice people

but now it looks like everybody's going somewhere else and no-one will be left to run at yarmouth

Ann - it's a 4 hour drive for me to Yarmouth! Apart from anything, there's no way I'd get to Yarmouth before about 9pm on a Friday after work :(

and even if it were on a weekend day - 8 hours driving on a regular basis would just wear me out ..... so having something just a little closer to home is going to be key for me to come regularly.

As it is, Peterborough is about halfway between my house and Yarmouth - 2 hours from either, so maybe you could do a bit of travelling too??? :huggles:

I dont drive Charlie :(

How about you get friday's as a day of and stay at Tanya's for the weekend,

Do you go by Carrie and Dave's..........you could pick them up on the way

If only it was that simple hey :))

Travel distances will always be a problem unfortunately and out of theway places like GY and to a lesser extent Peterborough will always be a challenge. I personally will not go to Peterborough due mainly to the fact that I do lots of travelling when I go to Harvel( 4.5 hours ) and with the lure coursing season and other things due to start, Peterborough would be a bridge too far. I will though attend at GY if suitable disciplines and ground rules can be put in place.

Tanya. We will be there tonight(NO DOGS THIS TIME SADLY) Henrietta couldn't have her x rays and investigations today as she was as sick as a dog  last night after eating a pigeon and the vets did not want to put her out.

I'll bring a camera so get ready to smile everyone

LAMPY

Hi Charlie, Can't believe that there's nothing your side of the country! are there no lurcher racing clubs closer to you? :( I'll have a search.

The original setup for the 'fun runs ' was Yarmouth and it looks like this will be the obvious place to start, with it being Tanya's home town and already has plenty of interest.

The idea of getting another Lure for Peterborough is a sound one, that way another club can be set up there too.

I agree Charlie, Friday evenings are the worst time for a club to survive. I could have several sports halls to run my sport on a Friday evening as there are always free spaces but you can't get people to commit to a Friday evening. Can I get a hall during the week? Not a chance  darn those badminton players

After last night's meeting im a lot happier...................what a great turn out

for a new club, it was a really nice evening, plus it seemed more organised

than the first meeting. I think all the dogs got a few runs in and the younger

dogs that came to watch had plenty to look at.

Well done everybody...........hope there's lots more nights like that coming

I didnt get back to Tanya's for the after race yapping as i didnt feel a 100%

but i went round earlier and had a cuddle with Kaya so that was ok. Hope my

nose didnt miss to much

Once the peterborough end gets up and running maybe we could meet up

now and again or something as it would be nice to get to know all the members

from both ends :))

Forgot to say i was well chuffed with Sada, she ran properly every time

last night.........well we wont go into detail about the time where she

ran half the course, turned of to do a big circle and the joined back in the race

I almost got my hopes up here but the OH has just told me it would be a good 4-5 hour all round journey for us... :(

There's nothing remotely close to us that offers the same as this...shame cos Inca loves to race. :(
