Hi

How long have you had Buster?

How much socialisation has he had, with you and previously?

How much time do you spend daily with him on one to one training, basic obedience and interaction?

What training aids have you used?

What collar, lead, harness, headcollar etc are you using and have you changed it?

What incentives, treats, toys etc does he respond well to?

What pack level is he at within your household and does this level change outside his territory?

How much experience do you have or have you taken in reference to "aggressive" dogs?

Is Buster dog aggressive or nervous aggressive etc etc?

Whether you muzzle Buster or not these questions and many many more need to addressed. A dog any age can be trained and should be trained. Terrier crosses are hard work, rescue dogs are hard work, all dogs are hard work and need effort, consistency and boundaries. IMO muzzling is not a long term solution, though can be a useful aide in some situations. What is needed is hard work and consistency ....and stopping Buster pulling towards other dogs!

my mums dog used to be terrible for pulling on the lead..............then she started to just turn around and walk the other way everytime rosie started pulling, it took a lot of time and effort and they didnt get very far on their walks :- " but it has paid off and she now walks lovely on the lead

she also uses a harness now instead of a collar

imo.............it sounds as though buster just needs to learn a few manners, im sure the pair of you will get there in the end, it does take time and some bloody hard work

had him out today, never met any dogs. My boss recommends that i completley ignore the other dog and the owner and keep buster focusing on me (and a treat) which i will try. she also recommends that i invest in a choke chain, though i know the rest of my family will not like that much. He sits, and can give paw now and occasionally lie down with a bit of coaxing from a treat. Will be taking him to work with me tomorrow to let my boss assess him and hopefully give me some pointers! i think that teaching him a few manners as some one put it so well, is my first priority rather that socialising.

(If that does not work look in greyhound discussion 20th May 07)

I am still working with my greyhound he has improved tremendously but it is a slow process. He now has lots of doggy friends and can behave well with dogs when he has been introduced, (friends dogs or nice strangers) but if we come across a dog that pulls towards him, he goes absolutely ballistic. But I love him so I persevere. I do not use a muzzle as I prefer to give him a treat to distract him. I use a harness and a collar with a double ended lead so that when I see a dog I can clip the other end of the lead to the collar and have more control. Most of the time I prefer to just use the harness as he is a big strong dog.

Hope this helps and good luck.
