Hello.

Just joined. Found interesting general help and information.

Thiss is our rescue dog. Bless her. Not too sure of her life before us (nearly 6 years ago) but certainly living the life now

I am trying to find information regarding fireworks. Our dog is so scared. We are trying to find some natural based calming drops/pills etc. Something we can give to her over a few weeks for fireworks.

Any advice please - as this year was particularly bad

Thank you. They knew the time was coming, so were able to give her the best life and spoil her rotten, which I think helps.

I've heard that scullcap & valerian given for a few weeks beforehand can help. It's sold by (amongst others) Dorwest, and they are very helpful so you might want to contact them for advice.

Have a look at Adaptil - they have a range of anxiety-reducing products.

You can get calming music for dogs, which I believe works for some and not others. Also recordings of fireworks, which you can use to desensitise your dog, starting at very low volume and gradually increasing. Not something I've tried, but I guess you would pair the sounds with treats or similar so they have a positive association.

My dog wasn't normally allowed on the sofa when we were on it (he didn't share well), but he knew that if he asked to go on the sofa when the fireworks started we'd vacate it so he could have it - I think him knowing he had a strategy gave him confidence. I do hope you find something that works well for your dog - when I was young the fireworks were just on one or two nights around Bonfire Night, now they go on for over a week, untill all hours of the night :-(

Sorry about the fireworks problems - I have had a number of dogs that were terrified of the noise, and a few that couldn't have cared less. I found Dorwest Herbs very helpful, but overall the best I could do along with that was to provide a warm dark "safe place" near me for them to snuggle into, and play music to take the edge off the noise.

This is what we have been doing past years. Making sure her little hideyholes are clear. Chatting to her as we go past. This year was particularly bad. The booms so loud made us jump.

Do have a look at the anti anxiety beds too, some people swear by them. The design of them, round, super soft and deep, seems to provide comfort.
