I used to race at new mills my dog was called dajarra .my uncle John dolan also ran there. All his dogs had the prefix D Like Mickey D and ROBERTA D.Also Gilly Davis who had DaBell. If your dog ran well there it would run well anywere . It was a tricky track because half way up there was a sudden rise then it levelled out again and a lot of dogs lost there footing. Also at the time it was one of the only clubs to have electronic timing.

Hi Peter and Patricia Baker here, I remember the Dolan brothers because I believe they had the best blood stock in the country at the time, everything they had was good especially Roberta D who threw some brilliant open class racers.

I remember there was a whippet that died and was buried on the winning line of that track, I think it was one of the Dolan brothers whippets but can not for the life of me remember which one ??

We bought a whippet from New Mills out of Gold Link, can not remember the blokes name but he had good dogs and raced at New Mills....

wow , going to relay all this back to my pa !!!

his other dogs that may jog your memory were a blue brindle " the exabitionist "

and one called flying shamrock

so glad people remember the good old days :)

Hi JoJess there was a old bloke in New Mills called Fred Bradley who always had the Good as gold lines could that be the man. Also there was a man who owned a good greyhound bitch called DUSKEY DASHER who churned out good pups to a lot of whipet dogs i think his name was Alan arnfield.

all this is wonderfull ,,,, my dad also says in them days (w00t)

dogs were more expensive than bitches ?? bet they wasnt the prices they are now (w00t)

Hi Saraqule even back in those days I was offed £500 for Dajarra .I cant remember his name but he came from Stevenage down south. The litter that was advertised all turned out good racer but all very unlucky . mine broke his leg .Dolan Bros broke its hock just as it won the final in a open and the pup that went down south lost a toe and was never the same .By the way Micky D was Dajarras uncle so the pups were very inbred.

must have been a few months wages then (w00t)

my dad and i are taking our pups on the field later and having a mock race lol

i know he will beat me as his little girl is from racing type lines and mine is show bred !! but will let you know how it goes !!

take my camera with me
