I have recently acquired a darling 3 month old JR who has had a lovely caring breeder, Mum and siblings but no toilet training with any of them. They have all been in a huge pen of sawdust and let out for frequent runs in the fresh air. I can’t fault the breeder. However my little girl is avoiding all the puppy pads I’ve put down and toileting on the carpet the second I bring her in from taking her round and round my small lawn. I know she’s very young but I spend ages with her on the grass. Have any of you had toileting troubles please? I’m not sure where to go from here as I must be doing something wrong🤔

Hello and welcome. I'm afraid that's just what puppies do, imagine a mobile baby without a nappy ...

But we have a guide to toilet training, have a read but please do come back it you have any questions.

Also I suggest a patch of sawdust outside where you want him to go - and reasonably near the door because when puppies need to pee, it's NOW! Puppies are surface-specific, and if he has always used sawdust, it's a big hint to him. It won't be for ever, just a week or two until he gets used to the wide world of the garden.

Saw dust is a good idea, especially as this is all he has ever been able to wee on. He dosen't know any different and this may help him.
