I have recently got an 8 week old Whippet pup but already have a 5 month old jack russell pup. Th jack is quite nervous of dogs as he always will get a distance away ten access the situation, i was just querying becaue te whippet puppy cries alot and i guess i'm just paranoid that they may not get along? Can anyone shed some light on my situation?

Cheers Greg

A lot of pups cry a lot . They have just left their Mum and brothers and sisters and everything iss strange and new . With your Jack Russell pup being so young I think it won't be long before they are getting on really well

Welcome to the forum , put some photos on and let us see your pups ;)

Hi Greg

Welcome to K9 :D

Whippet pups are just lovely and I'm sure it will work out for you very soon. When does he/she cry the most? What are the sleeping arrangements for both the dogs? Where do they spend most of their time - in the house or outside?

If you could give us more information about their environment, then we can make lots of suggestions to help and you can pick which ones suit you best

Hi again,

Thank you very much for your replies i really appreciate it, i have both of them at the end of my kitchen in their own beds, well they haven't decided as they keep swapping, my jack russell (wiggle) keeps swapping and the whippet just wants to get in with him. I'm trying to gt some photo's uploaed but my camera seems to be having an off day.

I have an average sized garden for them to play in but i also live in the countryside so a short walk out the back and they have plenty of fields to go running in. i have a tiled kitchen floor where their residence is and am a little dubious to let he two of them run round the huse yet as little whippy is too young (8 weeks) to not have the odd accident.

He cries randomly, last night (1st night) he cried for half an hour and then nothing but sometimes randomly in the day, i do appologise about the spelling my keyboard is a bit tetchy.

Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

Regards

Greg

Sounds a great situation :D

You might find that the pup is feeling the cold? It has been so bitter lately, and damp in the air too, and whippet pups chill very easily.

It would be well worth getting him a fleece jumper or pyjamas to sleep in - and wear during the day indoors if it's cold

Hopefully, in time, Wiggle will curl up with him and they will keep each other warm!

He won't need much exercise for a good few weeks yet, so the garden will be ideal. Whippets don't mature physically as quickly as terriers do so best to leave the free running around the fields together until he is at least 12 weeks plus and, even then, it pays to be very careful with them until they mature properly.

Whippets will thrive with warmth, good food and lots of cuddles :huggles:
