Hi all, just thought I'd introduce myself after lurking for a while....

I am madly in love with my little 14 week old whippet, Daisy-Mae (KC name Willowood Dreaming Spires - how gorgeous is that?!). She's my first dog and, I must admit, all my husband's idea but it seems to be me she's grown very attached to and vice versa

I had no idea how adorable this growing pup would be. I've always had cats in the past but our Lazy/Crazy Daisy has shown so much more affection than any of them put together!

As she's my first dog I am a bit green - when would it be the best time to start her at obedience classes and what do you find your dogs are best at? That is apart from going very very fast or sleeping for England

I've tried to attach a pic of her - hope it works....

Ah, Daisy is gorgeous!!

I have cats too, and when I got my first whippet I couldn't believe how cat-like she was in the way she played. They are just as agile as cats too

What a beautiful little pup... Good luck together... :luck:

I also have Whippets and Cats...3 of each...

Welcome. Daisy-Mae is gorgeous  and it sounds as though you have already fallen in love with her. I'm no expert but I would think the sooner you start classes the better, just so that she meets lots of other dogs and begins to pick up the rudiments. I suppose if you got in touch with whoever runs your local classes they could advise.

I agree with Jane that whippets are the ideal dog for someone who loves cats, they have lots of the same traits. I've found that this includes having no conscience about stealing food and pinching the best place on the sofa! :- And we love them for it.

Hi there and welcome. Daisy Mae is just such a cutie, love her markings with the black mask and white flash over it.

My whippet, Gracie is a year old now and I started obedience classes with her at 14 weeks. It has paid dividends and she absolutely adores them. When she was very young, quite often she couldn't make the whole hour and would fall asleep on her mat, exhausted with the brain power required for all these sits, downs and heels. -_- I think as long as the trainer is kind and it is all reward based, the earlier you start after vaccs, the better. Gracie has also learnt the knack of ignoring any other dogs that might be playing up whining, barking etc and it's quite funny seeing her studying a dog being put through its paces. She passed her Puppy Foundation in 6 weeks and is currently doing her bronze/silver - and don't let anyone tell you Whippets aren't clever as they can give most breeds a run for their money! Good luck and let us know how she fares. :luck:

Welcome to the forum – what a sweet looking girl she is.

Willowood; that rings a bell but I’m not sure why. Can I be nosey and ask her breeding?

I agree that it would be best to start classes with her sooner rather than later for the socialisation aspect alone.

Best of luck with her.

Hello and welcome :)) Daisy-Mae is gorgeous

I start obedience training with mine from the day I get them home and once fully vaccinated we start puppy classes (luckily for me mine are taught by a good friend) ... so at 14 weeks your pup should me more than ready to start meeting, greeting and learning how to behave around other pups, etc. etc. ... good luck with her :luck:

Welcome :)) Daisy is a gorgeous girl  and has such a pretty name too :huggles:
