Hi Guys,

Have found a very informative site fronted by Bruce Forsyth when his daughter had her two dogs stolen in 2006. It is appealing for vets pounds rescues and dog wardens to scan pets they have found as apparently it is not alway done. If you have gone to the bother of microchipping your pet bringing some comfort in case your beloved animal goes missing and then the system falls down, its simply not good enough. Give them a read. Its www.vetsgetscanning.co.uk they also have a facebook page which shows dogs that are lost or stolen. Also there is another lady who has a facebook page called Jesters Law. This is where sadly her dog was run over on the highway and the council picked up her dead pet but didnt scan it as apparently they dont do. She had to find out in a very harsh way so she is campaigning for councils to microchip pets that have been found dead on the roads. As dog lovers I am sure you will give them some support as without anyone moving forward there is no much hope out there for us that have been responsible and got our pets microchipped. Thank you.

Sorry I meant for the council to scan dead pets on the highway

Thanks for posting - very good cause - I will be signing!

It's completey mad that by law a dog killed on a motorway or other under control of the highways agency must be scanned, but a dog which meets its demise on a road in one of our towns isn't covered by the same legislation

I also have to say that micro chipping is not the be all and end all. My dog 'lost' its chip. That can happen apparently they move to the skin surface and then get expelled.

i was advised by the vet, who by the way fitted the first chip, that I should have had the chip checked regularly. No one told me about this at the time

there was a very large batch of faulty chips fitted over a period of more than a year too

I really should remember to ask the vet to scan Brude next time

Trouble is, we're usually in there with something so worrying that his chip is the last thing on my mind!
