Well, here we go, first thing i think neil would complain if whippet news gave the scr, dogs a whole page, he would wont the front. Now thats out the way i was at warwick on sunday and without a doubt the best race of the day was between

come on ernie and come on sue side by side nothing given all the way round to a photo finnish great if only all races were that close.

Scr dogs also contribute a good percentage of the takings needed for the sport to survive. However i feel that all scr racers have to look towards breeding down to the type of dogs that were once legens in the Scr world, Son of a bitch, casino,

Storm Bird, Jacks Back, Charmin, for instance, they were all under the fifty lb mark, as it stands at the moment scr racing is in danger of entering full greyhound

size, surly this cant be right for whippet racing.

I am confinced that we need greyhound blood in our dogs for both speed and keeping the lines difercified, both these qualities keep us apart from the peds.

but I think that the scr races should get together and agree a size that they feel gives them what they feel is a scr dog, and set a schedual over the next few years , that would give all future breedings time to size down. Thats my thoughts on the big dogs out the way, and before you all start having a go this is what this site is for voiceing opinions in what I hope has constuctive points. Like I have said many times before I love seeing all racing types run big and small, we need them all, but Neil calm down we are not all agaist the big dogs.

:) I AGREE WITH EVERYTHING YOU HAVE SAID PETER,I TOO LIKE TO WATCH THE BIG DOGS RUN BUT OVER THE LAST FEW YEARS THEY SEEM TO BE GETTING BIGGER.

I agree scotty nobody is against big dogs but they are getting on the large side so if they just breed down a bit the competition would be great for them and us to watch especialy now they have a supreme to run for them.

;)I have to agree with Woody you never know what size dig you will end up with. I remember the advert for her dog (Benjy) It distinctly said "wont be big" lol

My own Mickey Whizz is out of a 38lb bitch who was out of Crazy Cracker and we bred her to a 22lb dog Mickey Mouse were hoping for some middleweights what did we get a 50lb er who I wouldn't be without. When we got Sam he weighed 10lb at 8 weeks again we were hoping for a middleweight again we got a no limit 43lb. So Peter when you are on about capping the size of no limits just think if you mate Southern Scott I wonder what size they will end up. ;) The majority of no limit racers are between 40 lb and 50lb anything larger than this will find it difficult to get in a whippet trap. Anyway my question was should I get a column about scratch dogs going in the Whippet News? Karen (Kipperfluke) if I do start a column in whippet news of course I would include 36lb and 40lb they are all scratch as well.

:cheers:by the way it dont matter to me if they are big small or middleweight I like to watch them all run but I personally prefer the straights. I hope the big lad is ok Woody. :luck: Well if u all think its a good idea I will contact chris about starting such a column.. How many scratch turned up , who won, what times they did, how close the race was etc etc U c Im off already lol

Great idea about the column, i know you dont know how big they are going to be, but with the percentage of 1/2 cross greyhounds to greyhounds it can only increase the chance that the dogs will be bigger, what did they do in the past to keep them under the fifty lb limit. They might have given them to lurcher racers, or pet homes I dont know, but they were smaller.

:) well i just e mailed chris about column awaiting reply. Hopefully I will get the go ahead so watch out for a scratch column maybe in Aprils whippet news.,

:D Personaly i don't think it matters what size Scr dogs go, we all love our dogs, and you can never tell what size your pup will end up, Hellbounds out a 17lb dog and 22lb bitch, none of our dogs are true whippets. If we don't keep Ghd in non-peds then we will have a real problem with inter-breeding.

Rule 1/ General rules whippets are to be whippet like in appearance and recognisable as a whippet ??so what is recogisable has a non-ped whippet :b

HI GARY HERE COME ON ERNIE

I RACED LAST SUNDAY AT THE TYRONE OPEN WITH ERNIE GOT SCRATCH SUPREME ONLY TO BE TOLD AGAIN NO TROTHY .

THIS IS THE SECOND YEAR THE B W R A HAVE HAD A SCRATCH SUPREME STILL NO TROTHYS ROBBED AGAIN.

WHY DO I BOTHER

GARY. ERNIE

Gary, The yearling winner also didn'get a trophy, which I did think was a little mean, we could of gone home an hour earlier if we'd known...

Still, at the end of the day ERNIE was the best stratch dog there...and we all saw it..

Paul

:( I know what u mean Gary we won supreme scratch last year at IBM no trophy. How about us scratch racers donating trophies to the supreme scratch to keep for a year? On the plus side we did recieve a few trophies last year English derby Scottish Derby and a few north east clubs put trophies on for the scratch dogs. So not everyone misses us out. If I do get a column going I will be sure to mention all the scratch dogs. :D

I KNOW SHERRY

BUT THE B W R A HAVE MORE THAN ENOUGH MONEY TO BUY A TROTHY

IF A 18 POUNDER WON THE SUPREME AND DID NOT GET A TROTHY THERE WOULD BE HELL TO PAY,

GARY

It is unfair not to get anything at the end of the day when your dog has run well for you.

ONLY ONE LEFT GOING GOING

IF IT WAS ERNIE HE WOULD HAVE WON BY NOW,

GARY.

 Point taken Gary. All I can say is that if we start to do something about it ie donate trophies, writing columns etc etc others will hopefully follow. :D

When I pulled this topic up I didn't realise what a can of worms I would be opening up. But its good to keep the scratch racers in the spotlight.

 sorry gary dont understand your last post <only one left going going if it was ernie he would have won by now> explain please?

 id ave to agree with gary what he says is right

SORRY MY LAST COMMENT WAS MENT FOR A DIFFERANT CONVERSATION

 -_- -_-

IT WAS IN PUPS FOR SALE

GARY

weve won plenty supremes with blue goblin and not got a trophy as they dont allways get returned

I agree with all that has been said, :p A trophy should be given to the Supreme wether it be an 18lb whippet or a scratch dog, :D but we too have won supreme at opens and not had a trophy because it has not been returned  .........PLEASE return the tophys on time..........go get em carole :- "
