Hi.

I have an 11 month old bitch.

When I got her from E-PUPZ, she was advertised as a pedigree.

Along I went with my money, and purchased a great bundle of joy. (she's still holds the soft spot within my heart, and don't she know it).

The seller told me he would forward the pedigree onto my address (needed photo-copies for some reason). Like a fool I never asked to see the pedigree. :b

Some weeks later, I realised that I was not going to get the pedigree through the post. What makes matters worse, I have lost their contact details. (Tried explaining all this to E-PUPZ, but they do not want to know). :rant:

MY QUESTION Is there any way of getting a dog DNA tested to confirm she is a pedigree - she sure looks like one.

Does anyone know what sort of money I would be looking at paying.

I have just joined a whippet racing club, and would love to run her for fun, but at the moment I am in limbo land.. .. ..

Really I think unless E-PUPZ help you find the advert/seller, or you know the breeders, sire or dams pedigree names for the kc to help ,......that's it .....a DNA test will be pointless as you'll need the parents DNA as well to prove shes pedigree ....ie their puppy ........ have you got any photos of her that you could put on here ?? as its amazing how some people can spot a line or type of Whippet ....That may help ... :luck:

It took me 6 months to get Lennys pedigree papers off Lennys 'breeder', turns out she hadn't been bothered to send them off until I started emailing her about them.

I think you can request copies off the KC but they were pretty useless with me to be honest.

I think you will need the pedigree names of the sire and the dam and also the DOB to get the info from the kennel club. Chances are though, the breeder may never have even registered the puppies! Here's hoping though :luck:

ETA. try again with epupz, tell them you paid pedigree prices but haven't got a pedigree dog (at the moment). I managed to get them to ban a breeder from advertising as I believed she was over breeding. She still isn't allowed to advertise there now so they do stick to their word

I'm affraid the signs were there, but I was that excited at the thought of being a proud owner - I didn't see them.

The wife was buying the pup for me. (a prezzie) They showed her a piece of paper, and told her it was the pedigree. They told her they would post it on to her.

I never realised this converstion had taken place until it was too late.

Whilst at their house, I never saw any signs of parent dogs.

I did see other pups of other breeds - I just never took on board that I may be in the house of an illicit dog selling scam. (hide sight is a marvelous thing).

I will try to place some photo's of her on here, but i will have to wait till I get home.

I have had the last laugh - she is my dearest friend, and looks to be a keen worker. She's MUCH loved... .. ..

My gut feeling is that this is not a pedigree (registered) pup - even if her parents were full whippets themselves.

A lot of people seem to use the term pedigree to mean 'all one breed', (as opposed to cross-breed) rather than an actual kc registered dog.

By the lack of either parent to be viewed, and pups of other breeds my suspicion would definitely be that they were either puppy farm bred, or being sold on for back yard breeders.

If you no longer have the 'breeders' details, I doubt there is anything epups can do.

But if you want to race for fun with her, my suggestion would be to look either for somewhere that does fun running - or a friendly non-ped club that is happy for you to join in :luck:

When i bought my puppy i was told the same, they said we need to photo-copy the pedigree papers then we will forward them on, i lost the breeders address and telephone number, 5 years on i still dont have them.

I have just done what yougottabinit2whippet suggested and contacted the Kennel Club, they have come back to me saying if i have the KC certificate (which i have) then you can phone the KC club with your puppies Kennel Club name and number and you can order a pedigree directly from them for £6.

Not sure if this is correct so I am hoping someone with more knowhow will come along and confirm it later.

Even if you have the pups pedigree you still need to get the breeders signiture before you can get your pups racing passport. I have had this problem Megan is KC registered and I have all her paperwork. I have fallen out with her breeder and she hasnt signed the forms for me to get her passport. Not sure what we are going to do in the long run but as we havnt been able to get to the track for the last couple of months for various reasons it hasnt been a issue.

Hope you do get something sorted. Im sure if you cant get her papers you can run her as a non ped

that's correct, you need the breeder's signature for a racing passport. I think it is not a matter of the breeder giving you permission to racing the dog, but attesting to the identity and pedigree of the dog. But you just need kc registration certificate (with which you can get pedigree) to get passed to race at an individual club (or clubs -- need to be passed separately at each if you don't gain a racing passport). Like other respondents, I suspect that your pup hasn't been kc registered -- possibly that can be rectified if both parents were registered and you can contact the breeder. Non-ped racers are too fast for the pedigreed dogs to compete with, but a number of non-ped clubs do run special heats for the pedigree whippets and handicap them according to speed.

what do you remember about the location you went to get the pup? What was the date (and what age were the pups then)? What other pups were in the litter, if they were there? Whatever details you can give might help other k9ers to help you track don't the seller. I do think epupz should do more to help you get back in touch with the seller ... but how many humans are behind the machinery?

Forgot to say brionlinework - please don't let this spoil your enjoyment!

My pedi boy is much too big to race (and being ped isn't going to do great shakes in non-ped either!) but he absolutely adores the lure and I love to watch him having fun! I've not tried to do any serious racing with him yet, but there are some brill non-ped clubs who will make allowances (oh ok, some other technical term for staggering the start line!) so I am definitely going to be looking into it

My other lad who has beddy in him is not fast or keen enough but also has great fun, so I like to let him have a go too

If its fun and bragging rights rather than serious titles you're after, don't let the small matter of a lack of paperwork get in the way :cheers:

I've got 3 pedigree, non KC registered dogs (now 4 years old). I tried to chase up registration of their mother but to no avail, looking back, why I bothered, God only knows, because it certainly hasn't impeeded me.

Mine have all been racing week in, week out for the past four years. They've ran at lurcher shows, non-ped opens (against other peddy whippets) club raced against other peddys both on the straights and on greyhound tracks at Westhoughton and Highgate Greyhound Stadiums and they've succesfully trained every club dog racing at our track (and that's including the non-peds) :thumbsup:

A piece of paper won't stop you from achieving your dreams (especially when the validity of it is constantly under question)

Anyone who can provide an accurate lineage of their dog / puppy can state it is a pedigree puppy, it is the KC registration papers that allegedly confirms the validity of the forementioned pedigree. If the breeder advertised them as KC registered you have the opportunity to persue legal action but it should be noted that even a lurcher pup can have the term 'pedigree' coined to it's advert.
