Just like to ask everyones opinion on how long i should leave my puppy to see if his testicles drop, hes only 7 mnth at the moment so no rush. Ijust dont want to do too much with him incase it pulls on him. You can feel them and they are normal size but they are well up, he's also got a greyhound as a grandma, so could this mean it might take a bit longer or not.

Thanks daz, amanda

:) hi daz i dont know whether it has something to do with having greyhound in them but my dogs didn't drop until he was nearly nine months. So maybe give him another month or so and then maybe get the vet too check. It will put your mind at rest. ;)

 i left master blasters up in the groin for 3 years and i wish i had had it removed when he was young . master tornado was the same so i have had his removed now he is only 12 months i suggest that they be removed as early as poss if you are to race them but only the offending testicle :p

Kipper had a retained testicle but we left it alone as it wasn't causing any problems until he needed a tooth looking at-while he was out they removed the testicle then.

Kipper just thought he'd had a deep rooted tooth removed :clown:

He's such a trusting boy!

does it make any difference leaving them up if theyre not a racing dog?

reason i ask - my friend has just got a boxer & his is up, the vet advised they have it removed, ive not had any experience of it so dont know wht to tell her to do.

Thanks for your replys. They are both up but just have to give him to about 11-12 months, Just wont be able to do much with him and he will miss out on puppy raceing, experience more than anything. Thanks. :b

imho i think that if it is going to happen it will i had a whippet/ghd x ghd and he had his when i got him at 9 weeks ,

I agree. If they are both not descended by ten to twelve weeks you probably have a problem.

If one is down, which seems to be the usual thing if they are not both down, and the other one is in the groin area, you may be able to manipulate the retained one down. You will probably have to do this over a month or so and it may not stay down then. Any retained testicle or testicles should always be removed because there is a greatly increased risk of them becoming cancerous. I had one removed in a dog recently that was retained in the groin. I noticed that he was just not running as he should at the age of one year. The testicle was obviously causing him considerable discomfort. A few days after it was removed he was running like a different dog within a few days.
