So Ive had Mathew a week now and things are settling nicely with my other 2 dogs, also the grumpy cats. Adam, in true chihuahua fashion, is still a little prickly/bossy, but Hannah,my mini daschund, is in whippet love!!LOL She likes to throw herself on her back then wriggle up between his legs until she can lick his face to bits!!He is a wonderful boy, people, dog, cat and small animal friendly. House trained (more than can be said for Hannah!), lead trained and knows several commands.

Ive figured out that whippets are in fact overgrown, bony lap dogs and am now saving for a bigger sofa to fit all of us on comfortably. But are they always so noisy??

Mathew whines if I go out of the room and when he is shut in his crate at night he really howls!! Usually they go to bed in the dining room at about midnight and I let them out about 6 for a wee then they come up to my room for a couple of hours kip on the bed. Id luv to have them their all night but I work 2 nights a week so they will miss me less if they sleep downstairs for most of the night. I can see why his previous owner took hi m back, having 4 kids and a dog that impersonates the Vienna Boys Choir half the night just isnt going to work!! So will he get better?, at the mo Im just ignoring his tantrums, except his morning wee which he needs.

Is it a whippie trait? (he actually growled at himself last night coz he got hiccups!!)LOL

Whippets are not always noisy but in my experience babies are and that's what your wee pup is at the moment . If he was like that in his previous home I really don't see that as a reason to take him back . :(

His previous owners didn't give him time to settle. He will get better, is he caged apart from your other two? Is it possible to leave him loose, or is that not an option? Maybe if he had a pal to cuddle up to he would be quiet.

You might try a soft toy. Worked wonders with our little one. We have four dogs, they don't sleep apart but sometimes have to travel on their own in a crate when in the car. Our little one didn't like it much in the beginning and even if she was tired started tantrums. We gave her her beloved "Bodo Boxer", a soft toy boxer dog and after a short while she started cuddling it and even slept in the crate.

Thanks, Imight try giving him a toy to cuddle. Was a little worried he would eat it but he isnt destructive with toys at all.

All three are crated next to each other and the cats tend to miaow at him when he whines too!!LOL

Dont get me wrong, would never give him up coz he wants to be on X Factor but I could see how trying to get 4 kids to sleep with a howling dog might prove difficult. But their loss is my gain!!

As it happens I waited last night for his usual chorus, but nothing!!! Mornings might take a little longer but so what?

I admit I find his 'talking' quite funny most of the time!!
