(Bertha @ Oct 13 2008, 01:15 PM)Hi Everyone, As the owner of the bitch under discussion I'd firstly like to thank everyone who has leapt to her defence and been so supportive. Secondly, may I say that in addition to her BIS she has had BOB and Group3 under the late Terry Thorn, gained her Stud Book number from 16 entries in Open Bitch, and was 3rd at Crufts under Carole Neale. She has also won or been placed 89 times from 87 different judges. Can they all be wrong? !!!!!!!!!

Well done Jean with Perle and Dawn. I heard the judge with held first in open bitch, only one bitch there. This little bitch has won  BIS under Jean Lanning, been placed at Ch and open shows. I would like to know why this particular judge with held the first and gave the bitch the reserve card!!!!!!!
That does seem a bit extreme to me! If the bitch had won nothing ever and was a poor example of the breed I could may be understand.

I was entered at this one but decided not to go otherwise I would certainly have asked why first in open bitch was withheld. If it is the bitch I am thinking of, I have judged her in the past and there is no way I would have withheld - as you say, Jean Lanning gave her BIS and she has been in the cards at Ch shows in Open Bitch, has had numerous BOB's and group placings etc. and all in all has been a very consistent winner. Certainly a most odd decision by the judge, a Mrs Caroline Bradley.

Congrats to Jean and Perle though - and Dawn as well - on having a lovely day.

Gill

Hi Gill, I find that amazing, who is Caroline Bradley, I tried google but they bring up a horse lady. Anybody know what breed she has, apparently some body asked the show sec and she didn't know!!!!!!!! The committee must have discussed the judges at a meeting, what is it coming to, no wonder open show entries are falling!

She has Basenjis( i think i,ve spelt it right

She also seems to have Weimaraners..she is listed on Ch Dogs as a breeder of both breeds & her Affix is Emmzar but I am not too certain of how long she is in Basenji's as I have never heard of her nor the Affix (not that that means she is a unknown..just that I personally have'nt heard of her & whilst I don't know everyone involved within the breed I do know most of my fellow Basenji exh's) & the only Basenji/s that I can see her name associated with is a PD & that is only this for earlier this year? I can find no other results with her name or the Affix for any previous years??

No!!!!!!! This judge was fault judging, something the KC frowns on. Show secretaries should have a duty of care to select competent judges, not just some one off a list.

The dog should be judged as a whole, and placed accordingly, not judged on one fault.

Maybe they should do a write up on the judges, what they done etc on all schedules,i know they do it on some but it should be all. Then perhaps it wil help to decide whether to go under them or not.

That would help, judges who know what they are doing would be better (w00t)

Having been on a General Open show committee, where most groups were represented, I feel that the Show Secretaries should select judges for breeds either by requesting judging lists from Breed Clubs, or asking people at least in the Groups for names of people to judge breeds.

I know people who have been asked to judge there own breed who have also been asked to do another breed which they are not in. This is totally unfair on the exhibitors. I know we all have to start somewhere, but at least let that be someone who has an interest in the breed.

A lady called me some few years ago, who had got my telephone number from

a friend to say she was being asked to judge Whippets and wondered if I could give her a few tips on what to look for in a Whippet. She had been asked to judge Whippets along side the breed Saluki, which she did own and judge.

I advised her to get a copy of the breed standard, and watch whippets at as many shows between now and her judging appointment. Hardly perfect but at least this person was showing some interest in watch she was doing.

At least she was a hound person, we get allsorts down here! A premier show with whippets qualifying for Crufts had an Irishwolf Hound judge, the sec know a lot of us whippet folk, why didn't she ask us? The SWWC would have given her a judges list, and any of us could have pointed her in the right direction.

(w00t) ooo i missed this well done oliver and dawn
