Whats that saying about left hand and right hand?

Also trying to accomodate the club's lurchers too but don't suppose anyone's asked them how they want to run.

My thoughts on this are --A Common sense approach no good stating BWRA rules-as the lurchers running in this event wont be members so they dont apply-- Why try and fix something if it aint broke ---and a little communication between regional helpers /members would not go a miss--if it was left to me the first person who would have any say in this matter would be the trap man and then who ever is helping him --because he will be in charge whatever way its run and if it is Keith he knows what the lurcher folk like and does his best every week to help and accommodate them so with respect why not ask him --before putting it on here---

Couldn't have put it better myself!

well im not bothered really, but if it came down to it i wud prob prefer traps as it is more fair, and as us in N.I r making the effort to train our dogs to come out of traps and run around a track, then y cant the lurchers at ur club train their's to come out of traps aswell?? i just think it is unfair to hand slip dogs at a greyhound track un less the hare is starting in front of them??

after a discussion with rest of the committee it was agreed by the majority that lurchers would race from the traps whilst we understand the concerns of our trap man it is thought to get a fair race for all competitors the traps should be used.

It is hoped that as stated previously

" all dogs entering any section of this event must have experience of racing round a greyhound track and i n the company of others"

if lurcher's are running from traps u can bet a few stay in them (w00t) we used to have lurcher's running at spennymoor years ago they were always hand slipped :)) never out of traps :( as they are not used to it hope all goes well :luck:as Linda said if all dogs are experienced then there should be no probs

Anybody going 2 tip the winner of the lurcher racing then :sweating:

It's lurcher racing ffs - do they have to have had proving trials now? Thought it was supposed to just be a bit of fun to get lurcher people to see our sport, now it's only advertised to people who's lurchers are already running bend tracks with trapping experience it's not gonna bring any newcomers in.

Just out of interest were Steve & Mark involved in this vote?

Lurchers were racing out of traps as far back as 1986. In fact i went to Highgate one night and there was some whippet racing on, and i put our sally in a scratch race. She was a colliexgreyhoud, she beat a dog called B A ,I think it was a Maltby dog. I can see both sides of the coin. :- "

sorry Vicky but not getting into silly arguments over this on here it was discussed with committee members and the people who will be working on the day your views were taken into account as one of those helping out on the day but would not have altered the outcome feel free to p.m or phone

As far as I know none of the lurcher owners who have so far expressed an interest in running have asked for handslips but there has been a preference expressed for traps and we know those dogs running at the club can run from traps.

If it's a race then we should at least ensure it's fair. Handslipping on the bends is a joke. I have the dvd from last years westhoughton club open in front of me and the differential at the start was rediculous.

I've been to bend lurcher racing and inexperienced dogs don't always run and certainly can't be guarrented to run back to their owners when slipped.

Personaly I'm far from sure it's a good idea to have a novice dog on it's first run at a race meeting. Other competitors are their to race and the last thing they need is an inexperienced dog messing around. It's not unreasonable to ask for some prior experience and expect the dogs to have previously trialed at a bend track.

I suspect that making the dogs run out of traps will discourage those that have no experience from entering and IMO that's a good thing. If lurchers want to learn how to race there's been Thusday nights at Wessy with plenty of time to learn in safety.

if a dog is experienced, fair play
