Yesterday while i was at work i heard a dog scream and a woman shouting. I went to see what was happening and it was a staffi dog ragging a ladies collie. I couldn't just stand by and watch so i ran over and tryed to get the staffi off. Nothing seemed to work, crushed its bits, since it was a dog, and as though it may sound crule I punched the dog just to try and get it off the poor collie was screaming it was horrible to hear. In the end after trying to prise its jaws open i got hold of its nose and twisted it as hard as i could and the dog thankfully left go. The collie was lucky with the dog only getting it by the ear and not the throte. the staffie bite me and another woman while we were restraning it. the police were there in 10 mins and the dog took away to be given to the dog warden. couldn't belive it when I heard some one say the poor thing will prob. get pts, what did she expect when this dog had ragged another dog and bite two people. The dog was a stray but the police are trying to fund who it belonges to. The worrying thing is this is were I usually walk my dogs and I just kept thinking it could have been one of mine.

very brave sharon to step in.i.m.o. think its how they brought up.they can be a nasty dog, but if they brought up correctly they can be big softies.

think its young folks who think they are a status symbol and dont bring them up right.

think it worries everyone when you see one coming alone the road.

well done sharon hope you where not bitten to badly  :sweating:

i totally agree david, they are not all the same, my next door neighbours have a lovely staffy bitch, who has just had pups, her nature is brill, been brought up with 2 young children and is fantastic with them

what are the best methods of intervening in such unfortunate circumstances? (effectiveness in breaking up the fight/safest for the person who tries to separate fighting dogs)

Well done sharon You just carnt stand by watchinga dog getting attacked. Trouble is if the owner turns up they will ahve the dog back and it will be out wondreing about again. I would keep phoning the dog warden to see if its clamed or PTS witch it should be if ts biting people and dogs.

tony had to get a staffy off next doors yorkie a few months back. tony did the thumping in he head thinks and then got someone to kick it as hard as the culd in the taht worked on the 3rd kick. then he had to sit with it in a head lock till the owner deciede to come for it. that dog disaperd and now the woman across has got another one who was a sweet things fine with outher dogs and lovly loking but with all the teasing and petering her kids give it that dogs now turning into a nasty peace of work aswell. I am a wreck every time i take the dogs in our out cos of it and its not the poor dogs falt its hers. she just opens the front door and it wandres about Iv given her a long lead and ground spike but its not allways on it. It was such a lovly dog before she got hold of it

A very sharp knife

I've been told by trainers that the safest way to break up a dog fight is to grab the aggressor by the rear legs/ back-end and pull them apart. The theory being that their mouth is the most dangerous part and you have less liklihood of bitten if you grab the back end securely. Limits their ability to twist around and get a good hold on you.

That woundnt work on a staff that has locked in , it would just make it worse for the dog being attacked

Well done Sharon, The owners of these dogs should be punished as well as the dog pts. Most are young yobs who want to look big. We have a small grandaughter 2 staff dogs big ones soft as butter. But they have been trained properly

If you are strong enough the fastest way to get a staff off is to suffocate it then it has to let go fast. A mans leather belt or leather lead twisted round its neck will do the trick, keep twisting till its so tight the dog cant breath, then rap it round the neck of the owner of the staff and do the same

There was a mam trying to do this and i told him to get off. the more he pulled the staffi. the more it was ragging the other dog.
