Hi after trying all day to get to the bottom of this . It has been confirmed that npwra champs will be run on track with sand pit at the finnish. just thought you all should no.

Hi . just got passport back and sent off entry and membership this weekend . was told month or so ago this track was for club meets. Not champs. This weekend we were told they were going to use this track.

So in that case at present the answer is NO you are not a member. Yet you are happy to comment in such a negative way on other sites!

Was told weeks ago after exspessing my concerds about this pit, was informed that it would not be used at champs and opens . if you look back some weeks I made a comment with the concerns of dog safety after my grandad losing a greyhound years ago at henlow track when it was a mix track sand and grass a lot of dog could not handle the change . this is were his dog broke his leg.later years this track was made all sand.first posted concerns Feb 7th on face book.

I'll reserve judgement until I have seen it, but as long as the sand is kept damp I can't see a problem.

I haven't seen the sand pit. But everyone I've spoken to who has run their dogs on it are very impressed with it and like it.

So it's hardly surprising that opens and champs are going to be run on it when it's had a massive thumbs up from the racers who've used it.

Yes, the advantages are that it does slow the dogs down when they hit the sand and should prevent foot and stopper pad injuries :thumbsup:

The disadvantages are that the whippets get sand in their eyes, in their mouths, up their noses and it's possible they may get some down their ears :unsure: but on balance it is a safer finish for them as the clay ground at Andover can get very hard in dry weather.

It is a good idea to remember to bring a bucket or bowl and some extra water to wash out their muzzles, mouths and feet
