Hi everyone,

we agree with neil the only person you would be cheating would be yourself.

Surely racing should be a fun hobby and not as serious as people are making it now, after all we are not running for huge amounts of money (even though winning is nice).

we are not in favour of drug testing especially as its causing much ill feeling in the sport and things dont seem to be getting any better.

We think that our dogs should be pets first, and race second,so surely if people feel the same drugs should'nt even be an issue.

???

sadie&co didnt think mantoners were that clever

only joking ;) your right they should think about

getting people into the sport not pushing them

away from it.

( ps dont forget only joking, i lived at manton once)

EEK< I'm not making digs towards anyone in particular esp not steve&julie, I think as a team they were excellent racers and were deadly keen on it, Tony and I do spend an awful lot on feeding(we dont only just feed our decent dogs on fresh shin beef, organic veg, rice buscuits etc) we also feed our rubbish dogs on it inc ancient lurchers and crippled whippets, my digs are aimed at people whom I know are not innnocent racers(may I add not in my region), we also have access to the best greyhound vet in the n/west(my opinion ,24/7 no expense spared!!!!! ??? ), no digs being made at anyone, whom u think I am digging at  .I think steve & julie were treated fairly awful for what they had done, but there are people out there(beleive me) who are doing an AWFUL lot worse.

theres got to be something done otherwise innocent people

who love the sport for what it realy is, will be banned through no fault of their own,

I think that Michelle may have omitted one or two reasons why some people have champion after champion, that is:

1)they start with the best breeding stock in the sport and have pick of the litter.

2)they have more knowledge adout the breeding and kennel care of their dogs than any one else.

I`d put Steve Bateson in these catagorys

From what I know of Steve he is not a cheat but if he wished he had both the knowledge and the ability to cheat without being detected. He was banned for theobromine ( which is not performance enhancing ) and very low levels of ibuprofen from using ibuprofen gel as a rub on linament.

There are others who have similar advantages but are never going to be penalised and I feel these are the people who need to be taken to task.

The drug testing by both national bodies has sinister witch-hunting overtones that I find difficult to stomach. I think you are all right to be worried because if you have a decent dog it may well be you next.

We know the steve and julie drug test story fairly well,as steve rang tony on the day he was accused to ask his advise(as tony is quite well educated medically), I had also found out about the drug ban before steve + julie, as i had been informed by a friend of a friend on the fed. As far as I am concerned they failed on something fairly trivial, and they should'nt have received the treatment they did, esp people knowing before they did ??? , BUT maybe we should question ALL the other peoples drug tests. there are several people who have been banned during my whippet racing career, but should they have been??, it annoys me so much that not enough research has been done on it, it's ok that greyhounds receive this, that and the other, BUT WE ARE WHIPPETS, no-body knows what levels are enhancers on whippets and whats not ??? , before ANY commitee's get on there high horses dictating what we should or should'nt do  A LOT more research is needed. if it cannot be done  correctly than it should'nt be done at all.

Re; Steve and Julie Bateson

When a true genius appears in the world,  you may know him by this sign, that the dunces are all in confederacy against him.

i totaly agree with every thing been said in this topic and also think that these questions should be asked and answered by the right people if we dont ask we dont get to know the right answers. I tryed by putting a letter to chris for the whippet news and it was never answered or published. I also know that julie would have comeback in racing but said she was affraid she would be treat in the way that jill hardy has been treated by certain people, shes been bad mouthed also hit while attending whippet events do we really know if she was wrongly acussed of the drugs, marks done a great deal to try clear there names. It really annoys me that the commity when tested them selfs handle the samples after wards. And most tests are taken on bank holiday weekends so there not posted till the tuesday who has these tests till posted and could they be tampered with.

I know what you mean Denise regarding the commitee and samples etc.  It always aggrevates me when committee members samples leak - how often will this happen before something is done about it.

When drug testing started bid we all get a vote on it cant remember if we did also I dont think they will take any notice to what we say they will carry on and more people will be banned and more people will leave the sport. I say most people race their dogs because they love it, the drinking, chatting to pals, makeing new freinds also winning now and again but some times its not worth the bother. I hope that very soon they will take notice of what the racers want and get back to enjoying the sport.

I cannot see why, if drug testing is to de done the racing bodies employ a vet for the duration to do the tests ??? .When athletic drug tests are done, they are done by professionals, not by a fellow racer/competitor, you don't see any other sports where drug testing is done(athletics, horse racing, greyhounds etc), by someone unqualified on a field, with unsterile eqipment, samples hanging around in a box in someones car/bag for days.

This subject seems to be hotting up a little, maybe someone out there can tell me has anyone actually seen the results of any tests? If they are to be strictly adhered to why is there not a photocopy of the breakdown of the sample ,along with the name of the person who conducted the analysis and the company or laboratory to whom the sample was sent, along with their report on how the samples arrived  and in what condition they were in the  date they arrived. Surely this is all part a parcel of the procedure. I know when health officers collect samples from butchers shops they wear sterile gloves, white coats, hats and have a sterile bag and sterile box to place the sample in. You are also given half of the same sample so you may have it analysed privately if you wish. I don't think a case legally challenged would stand up the way things are conducted at the moment and I would certainly take anyone to task if they even suggested I was cheating in any way shape or form. This is the one thing apart from dying that is certain in my life.Oh by the way neil kipper is still laughing! In fact he has just wet himself. Dirty Kipper!

has anyone ever sugested taking legal advise, as i dont think it would come cheap,(steve naz said you had better start putting kipper in napies may not be wee next time they meet) ;)   ;)   :D they may let him race in one but dont

forget to puta number on it(number 2)

I have a patient who is a greyhound trainer, he knows someone who bought a dead horse to feed his greyhounds, he thought that the horse had died of natural causes but apparently the horse was ill so the owner thought it was cruel to have it shot so she had it put down(sounds crueler to me), he fed the meat to the greyhounds, and woke the following day to find 6 dead dogs :(

Apparently if you feed a dog on an animal (cows, chickens)which was given growth hormone or something called procaine penicillin(an antibiotic) procaine is a stimulent and will show up on drug tests and so will growth hormones, due to the fairly decent quality of meat in this country(unless you get a dodgy source), our animals still have these drugs in them but in other countries where meat controls are'nt as strict as ours it is more widespread.

With drug testing, the first test is simple and unaccurate, but it shows if any substances are in the sample, if so then a further breakdown is done, apparently if it's something the dog has ate, the tests are sophisticated enough to tell. The horse racing forensic board do the samples for horses, greyhounds and whippets(lots of money involved in the first two!!) and I don't think they make mistakes, but same complaint as before, testing horses/greyhounds it is done correctly ??? whippets I don't think are tested correctly :(

Denise i heard of this a while ago in a complete greyhound feed i think it was "Australian Greyhound Food", that there was something in it that would show up in drug tests.

I've heard that dogs using this australian greyhound food are flying ??? , could there be something in it :0

you must be on about the one with creatine in it,

alot of the greyhound men say the results with it

are great, but some say after a while there dogs went

downhill, suppose to cut injury's down too.which i think is rubbish.

i myself tried it on our greyhound and the whippets the coats were a lot better there performance was no diffrent i struggled with their weight and found they were hungery all the time as you are adviced not to add any extras ie pasta, fish, meat ect with it. i soon went back to my old feeding method

If you really want to do something about it use the rules.  What I mean by this is after reading the results from this years B.W.R.A A.G.M there are some things that struck me.  But if you want changes or answers one way to do this is a proper motion/proposal.  After all one of the things decided at the last A.G.M is that this years A.G.M will be a true and proper A.G.M.  To do this every member should recieve norification of the A.G.M and its time date and venue and a agenda should be produced before the A.G.M and also a list of motions/proposals to be discussed.  Any motion/proposal should come with a description of the motion/proposal and the reason why it was submitted and the name of the proposer and seconder.  Now the rules you should submit the motion/proposal so that it complies with all the B.W.R.A rules if you do this there should be no reason why it should not be submitted to the agenda.  At the A.G.M the motion should be debated and voted on fairly.  If it is to be done properly you should be there to speak on your motion/proposal if you can't be there to do this you should try and get your region to

submit the motion/proposal and get your regions representitives to speak for it.  But given the distance of the next A.G.M maybee the top table should use a open itercom phone line to let a proposer speak on their motion/proposal or even hold the A.G.M on championship weekend after all most of us will be there.  But remember other members have the right to speak for/against your motion/proposal with you having the right of reply also if similar motions/proposals are submitted you may be asked by the top table to compisite your motion/proposal with another but no content can be lost doing this.  This is the only way you will get your say or will it be the usual case of moaning and doing nothing about it.    :0

Well that put a stop to that. I guess with the lack of response everyone is happy with the way things are.  If that's the case lets get on with it without any complaints.
