I like to let mine off early but to be honest it totally depends on your dog. All of mine so far have stuck near me (greyhounds don't count as they were older and rescues) except for Albie who immediately abandoned me to go and walk with my Dad who was a little way ahead! I don't walk fast enough for Albie apparently! :- " Logan and Niamh have excellent recall, but Albie will come back when he wants to, thank you very much. If my Dad hadn't been with me the first time I let him off I probably wouldn't have done it just then. Daisy is nearly ready for her first walk and I don't think she'll go far from me either.

It's totally up to you when you let your pup off the lead. If you don't feel confident, and if Lacey is an independent miss who wouldn't give two hoots what you say to make her come back, then leave it till you've practised recall a bit more in safe places.

now for my tale :- "

i agree that usually its good to let them off early as they want to stay close to you , but BLISS on the other habd was just the opposite :- "

plenty of recall at home , no problem , age 12 weeks , after vaccinations i let her off lead , she shot off into the woods and no matter how much i called there was no sign , 10 mins later out she pops and runs up the other side of the track , no intrest in me OR her mum .

i thought she would at least stay with jan , but oh no she is so independent :clown:

bliss is literaly one in a million :sweating:
