Hi my 4 month old collie is losing his puppy fluff! And now has his adult coat, he is scratching and has had treatment for fleas etc. When do you start giving them oil for their coats...I have some oil for dogs, gave him a little and now he has bad wind! :( just wanted to help with the change in coat and subsequent scratching!!

A good daily grooming may be more beneficial - it will help him shed his baby coat and also, very importantly get him used to being groomed and handled. Regular grooming helps to spread the natural oils secreted by the oil glands in the skin along the hairs to keep them in good condition.

You could try Yumega oil in addition to a daily groom http://www.lintbells.com/ or salmon oil is good for coats. In truth though I havent heard of giving collies oil- my mum has had collies for 50 years and hers usually have beautiful coats without any supplements ;)
