Hi I was wondering if someone could help me.

I have an old rescue dog, aged approximately 13/14, and he has developed incredibly itchy ears since the end of 2013, October/November time. Each time I go to stroke him he always moves his head down so I can scratch his ears for him and I always see him rubbing his head along the furniture, such as beds and sofas to try and relieve the itching when he can't scratch. I have examined his ears and there is no signs of any swelling, redness, mites, flees or foreign objects stuck in his ear canal.

Today I took him to the vets to see if they could help with giving me an answer to see what it was that is causing the itchiness. A young woman vet prescribed me with a weeks dosage of 'Canaural, Ear drops, suspension for dogs and cats'; she told me he was to have 7 drops twice a day for a week.
I am sort of anxious to give him a second dosage of the treatment, the vet gave him the first whilst we were there, due to the vet saying my dog could have a brain legion, and I am fairly certain that my dog doesn't and didn't have one of them.

I was just hoping that someone could give me a review of Canaural when having used it on their dog, as my dog is quite old now and I don't really want to be giving him anything that will cause him any aggravation, any pain or anything that may risk shortening his life.

My dog is a saluki collie mix if that helps.
Any help will do,
Thanks. :)

Ok, that sounds like a good idea, thanks for your help. I have given him his second dosage this morning and the itching seems to have stopped, I am keeping a close eye on him for any changes in his normal behavior, but so far everything seems fine:)

Keep us informed, when im at the vets i must ask 30 or 40 questions, if you dont understand them make them explain so you do, its your money.

Your dog probably has an infection or ear mites deep down in the ear canal (where you wont be able to see anything!) so the vet has prescribed Canaural, use the drops regularly and his ears should be much better by the end of the 7 days treatment. I have used Canaural several times over the years with various dogs and NEVER had a problem with it. I hope your dog is feeling better soon :flowers:

I know I'm a bit late to the party, but I have had girls with itchy ears (just barely starting an ear infection) and a course of the drops cleared it right up. You could see the waxy buildup starting even though there was no smell yet. By the time the course finished, their ears were lovely and they had no more issues. Absolutely follow the directions, warm the bottle of drops in your hand then drop them so they go down the canal, and then gently rub his ears close to his head to help them absorb and get to where they need to go - he'll also enjoy the massage.

Keep us posted.

I am late answering also but i had a Shih tzu who had really bad ears when i got her. canaural seemed to suit her fine although you could see her ears were a mess hence why I took her. Keep the ear covered as they immediately shake their head giving you a good splattering of it.

I also got a cleansing solution as i couldn't bring myself to pluck the hair from her ear canal i just used to clip it very short.

I have a labradoodle who sometimes has ear problems. At first I used to take her to the vet, but then somebody told me about Thornit powder which is wonderful stuff & clears the problems every time. You only need a tiny bit & dust inside the ears with it. It can be bought on Ebay or Amazon & is much cheaper than drops etc from the vets (they won't tell you that!). I highly recommend it.
