One of our Oldies Club supporters has made this lovely montage of some of the dogs we have rehomed this year. I have to admit it made me cry a bit to see all these lovely old dogs who are now in new homes. I hope you don't mind if I share:

I do sometimes think, though, that if every person who breeds decided not to breed just one planned litter, and took on a dog needing rehoming instead, it would really help the number of dogs in rescue.

I do sometimes think, though, that if every person who breeds decided not to breed just one planned litter, and took on a dog needing rehoming instead, it would really help the number of dogs in rescue.

The very stark truth is that we breed far more dogs in this country than there are good homes available.

The awful situation in this country where we put to sleep around 10,000 dogs a year in council pounds (and that's just the tip of the iceberg) will just go on and on until there are less dogs bred.

I'm afraid I'm pretty much a misery guts when I see puppy threads. I love puppies, who doesn't, but I no longer see cute puppies, I see yet more dogs being born into a situation where we can't find homes for the ones who are already here and are killing the surplus in large numbers.

I couldn't agree more Fiona. I said to someone the other day that if, every 2nd or 3rd year, there was a total ban on breeding then slowly the surplus would be reduced. Totally unlikely & impossible to put into practice I know but as the advert says....Every Little Helps :b

Lovely to see these seniors enjoying their later years. I am on my 2nd rehomer. The first came to me at 8 and lived till 12 yrs old and this one, who I've had for 6 months iwill be 11 in February. they may not be as cute as puppies but they give so much affection back. I wish people would think twice before automatically going for a puppy.

Every time I come on here, I end up in tears of sadness or happiness! So good to see so many rehomed. It is a great website, which I know I will be using sadly in the next couple of months. Ashas heart is so very enlarged now and the medication is taking its toll on her kidney and liver She is still so full of spirit and life it's hard to believe but my vet who is a heart specialist does not know how she is still here as after 6 months of treatment, she was given 2 months in June last year. Stanley will be heartbroken when she is gone, on her last day visit to the vets for x-rays and ECG just before Christmas I had to leave him on his own for half a day. When I got back to check on him I could hear his sorrowful howl down the street which made me burst into tears. When the time comes Stanley and I will be looking to give a forever home to an oldie.
